what are the made of ? what are they most similar to?

They're compression molded "clay" chips just like ASM/CPC and Paulson. They feel pretty solid. I don't have enough to get a feel for who they're most similar to though.

Given that he sold the 4 racks to me for $400 total, I would venture to say he isn’t a chip collector. Was just something his late brother left behind amongst his things when he passed.
