Double whammy in the post today...

First there’s a rack of PNY snappers with some $20s from @flipupchipup together with 4 extra $25s which was a nice bonus :D

Good old British customs opened the package decided that I didn’t need to pay any import duty but charged me a £25 handling fee anyway :banghead:

Then there were possibly the best wrapped chips in the world ever from @bluegill

And once again customs decided to take a peak and charge me £25 which is nice...

The same happened to me lately. Customs opened a package and also one of the barrels packed in bubble wrap. They used a cutter to open it and seven chips now have a slight cut on the rolling edge (mint AS chips). Great job, guys!
At least we don't have to pay for them opening a package...

Any suggestions for better international shipping? I never thought about the damage customs can do.

Stupid thing about this is the chips were perfectly packed (regarding to chip safety), I also never thought some customs officer could be that careless...
Best is using the white cardboard boxes Jim uses for shipping out mint chips. They can be easily opened to see what's in there. But I guess the seller just didn't have any by hand.

They just examine a few random sample packages at the import customs department. It was the first time they opened one of my packages.

Agree 100%. The chip boxes make it pretty improbable that a customs officer can damage a chip with a knife. That said, I've personally shipped chipped in barrels wrapped in saran and bubble wrap. Going forward I'll likely always just use boxes and make sure they're padded out well to prevent any movement of the chips.

@DoubleEagle is the man for that. He managed to send me over 1,000 chips that completely bypassed customs and got here in under a week. Still don’t know how he did it...

Sorry they popped you on my shipment. I should have put “adult toys” or something on the customs form and maybe they would have been too embarrassed to open it.

Same here! $700 worth of chips, 0€ paid in customs. Only time that's happened. @DoubleEagle officially has the customs run-good.
