I all of a sudden have this urge to start cracking open old Topps baseball card packs just for the crunchy gum. o_O:love:

Omg, I want so bad. My favorite :D Congrats.

Not many sample sets make the keeper pile in my chip closet, but these are as grail as it gets for me. Starlite 1k will be my go to card capper for years to come. Seeing them in person is even better than expected. I always thought the $25 would be a flop, but I was surprised by it. Thank you, Krish.

@legend672
Didn’t you or me or someone back in the day on CT have a few barrels of the Starlite $1K chips ??
Seeing that one there now so purdy makes me wish I’d have got some :P

Are those overlabels? How do you like them? What chips are they on?

Indeed, they are overlabels. I ordered both overlabels and full label replacements, but I couldn't bring myself to fully murder these chips at present. The gray chips are Casablanca 100s and the blurple are Ambassador Plaza 500s. Your question on how I like them is mixed, for a few reasons.

Let me just preface by saying that Gears work is excellent and none of this applies to his work, it's just a limitation of labels replacements in general.

The feel of overlabels isn't as nice as textured replacements because the overlabels are smooth. However, the faux shaped on the overlabels allows for the inlay design to be the same size as the originals. The replacements are are slightly smaller because the faux shape has to fit inside a 7/8" label. Seems obvious, right? I didn't think of this when I first ordered faux shape inlays several months ago.

Overall, I am happy. The optimal option would be to find hot stamps to shape mill for labels, but that is so rare and requires rare chips to be murdered, especially if they're leaded. I'm pretty sure you go directly to hell for that, you don't even collect $200.

You'll also notice that with overlabels, if the inlay isn't perfectly flush with the 1/8" of clay surrounding the inlay in the recess, you will see the unevenness. You can see it on the AP 500s. The Casa's came out really good.

Had some opportunities to build out some current sets so took them.

@jja412 helped me finish out a barrel of Crown Plaza 100s and I sent him a barrel of fracs I didn't use/need. Thanks, Joe!

@Mojo1312 had a nice offering for some Havana fracs which are overlabeled Crown Vic snappers. Man these look nice. Thanks, Michael.

@johnsj12 saw my need for more Crystal Park 25s so offered me a barrel. He also had a very nice barrel of 10s and I couldn't resist. I don't have a need for the 10s but man do they look nice. Thanks, Jeremy!

Last but not least, thanks @ImCrossland for helping me build out my Aurora Star set. Thinking about building those to be large enough for two tables. Thanks, Triston!

I do see that on the AP 500s, or at least on one of the ones in your picture; the light reflecting off of it shows that there's a ridge underneath the label.

Even so, based only on the visual appearance, I have to say that the overlabels look so much better in my aesthetic estimation than an inlay replacement. The ridge under the label bothers me vastly less than having a decal inside an off-center artificial recess inside the actual molded recess. The overlabel taking up the full extent of the molded recess and being perfectly centered inside it is a beautiful thing.

Anything other than the original inlay is a compromise, but in my unpopular opinion the overlabel is a seamless alternative and the inlay replacement (at least on molds like THC) is an ugly hack. Visually speaking. I have yet to hold one in my hands.

Congrats on some great-looking labels on some great-looking chips, and I hope you're happy with them whichever way you end up going.
