Things That Are Bullsh*t (20 Viewers)

Dibs doesn't mean shit. The seller of an ad can sell to whoever they want. I don't believe I have rights to any chips unless I've sent payment after expressing my interest in buying and I've confirmed my shipping details with the seller. I've been on the ass end of these situations too. It sucks. But chip karma is real. You'll get what you're after one way or another at some point!

Dibs not being honoured. Or am I misunderstanding how dibs works?

Dibs on 23 chips.

Get told in DM there is only 17 left because someone else dibsed (no such dibs in the sale thread).

Then updated by DM again, now there is only 14 left. Of course, the best chips gone.

This shit normal? Just unlucky on my first purchases?

I DM the PCFr that is getting the chips I think I dibsed... crickets.
Its why I generally post in my sales that dibs must be made in the thread. Even if DMs did beat your threads dibs, someone will always question what's really going on.

Also - don’t be soured on future purchases.

The situation you’ve encountered is the exception not the norm.

But feel free to be soured on individual sellers and buyers. It sucks if someone intentionally screws you, especially if it's for hundreds or thousands of dollars.

If anything, chippers should LOVE when they're screwed out of a couple bucks or a purchase/sale here and there. It's a cheap lesson on who to never deal with again.

*edit to say - this site and hobby is built to be this way. Thread crapping is not allowed, and if you call out folks publicly, like in a thread like this, you'll build a reputation and realistically you'll look like the one who is difficult to deal with. So there's very little public information on buyers or sellers outside of meaningless feedback ratings. That being said, there are known folks on here who live only to make a penny, and while people will still deal with them, they absolutely are not looked upon fondly. Just takes time, experience, and deals to figure it all out.

Theres a meme called chill guy and I try to be like him and not get upset over small things.

Someone harvested a TP $100 NCV from tonights event. On average how many chips do you lose a year? Maybe one or two a month?

Might have to buy legolds ncv as backups.
Maybe 1 in 4 tourney hosted I lose a chip.

It looks like you’ve got some CONUS / international issues going on. I have sympathy all around on that - international shipping is much more complicated and stressful than CONUS but on the other hand, it must stink when you’re trying to buy chips.
As far as dibs go, they’re meaningless. In any sales situation on PCF, I try to have zero expectations; I just try to be quick and polite and hope we can make a deal. But if not - shrug.

Just recently in a sale I was the first to claim "dibs". The seller - @Tommy - then replied "I got a dm also. Going to check the time stamps". I was like aww fuck, but unless the seller specifically states how they are handling their sale it's anything goes. I was lucky enough to beat out the dm but if I didnt, what could I do. You'll experience this from time to time. Sometimes you think you're beating the bunch by sending a dm and the seller disregards it and without reason. What can you do. Like @JMC9389 said you move on.

Yeah, my downfall seems to have been having expectations. Learning. Easy to get disappointed with higher expectations.

Thanks to all who replied.

Thanks for explaining.
Wasn't intending to call anyone out. Feedback was very useful calibrating my expectations with what is normal/typical in sales - there seems to have been a significant mismatch there. Calibrating, learning.

Not had many easy/smooth interactions so far (compared to what I was expecting). Think I'll change approach and put a Wanted ad out instead.

For sure, wasn't saying that you were (calling anyone out), just explaining it's not a good idea to and because of that public information is pretty limited. Most issues with buying and selling go unpublicized.

I'm sure I have at some point, but I don't remember once leaving negative feedback on a transaction. And I've been left on read or ghosted on over $1k multiple times. I haven't left feedback since July of 2022, despite being someone that has bought/sold well over 500 transactions, likely closer to 1k+ transactions.

Hell, look at my history when I ghosted the forum twice however many years back on bulk shipping/reshipping, yet only 2 negative feedback out of that.

Get back on the horse, jump into the next classified eyes wide open, and have fun chipping! You'll find 99% of transactions are smooth and without a hitch.

Did it really take you 13 days to respond?

Oh, right... you're still on dial-up. ;)
