Things you have to google that make you feel stupid as hell (2 Viewers)

The one that bothers me is "fewer vs less". This weekend "DeMarco Murray had less rushing yards than Tony Romo". No - he had "fewer rushing yards" or "less rushing yardage". I don't know why it annoys me, but it does.
This is my new favorite pet peeve. I even hear people in the news using it wrong, those guys study style guides and should be able to get it right. I corrected my daughter recently and she was like "What? what does it matter?" YAAARRRRGGG!!!

no one even tries anymore, Thru took over as a place holder for idiots who dont know the difference, I the amount of professional emails i get with the word thru in them is astonishing.
The only time "Thru" should ever be used is if "Brew" immediately precedes it.

Personally, the things I google most that make me feel stupid are forum shortcuts. I've looked up YMMV, FTFY, OTOH and a ton of others that I never remember. I try not to use them too much myself because it makes me feel like a teenage girl.

LOL. Like, OMG!

Is there a correlation between proper grammar and cursive?

there's probably a strong correlation between people who understand that cursive is irrelevant and those who don't waste time trying to talk good on internet.

In science they say that every question answered will spawn more questions.
Since I know less than anyone, I must be a genius.
Its true; I googled it.

lol, i see what you did there....

All my family (wife, daughter and son) all have birthdays on the 21st of a month. I just need to remember months.
I work in investing and so I see principle all the time. Also remember that the principal is your pal.

Jeff has engineered an easy-to-remember life for himself. I'm jealous. I literally forget which year I was born in. ("how old am I? Fuck. Ok, 2015 minus 197-ish...")

Was it awkward being in the spelling bee as a 7'8" adult with a bunch of 4th graders around you? Which word did the little shit beat you on?

C'mon now, I was only 5'5" in 4th grade. I didn't hit 7'8" til junior high. (Aside: I've got a buddy whose wife is 4'7" My 6-year-old daughter is 4'8" - no joke.)

I believe the word was floccinaucinihilipilification - something I need to practice more often when I get dealt 85 sooted. (Not really - I have no clue what the word was. I just remember the snooty fooking girl that beat me. Her nose was so far up in the air, I should put her on a Via Lactea chip.)

I am not particularly concerned about grammar in email, texts, and forum posts. But advertising, articles (even blog posts if they are supposed to look professional) ect should use correct grammar. Anytime your reader stops and notices the bad writing, the writer loses.

Edit: and don't get me started on "Walla" instead of "Voila"

I prefer to be the person the googles dumb questions than the person that asks everyone in proximity where there nearest coffee shop is or what the weather is going to be like.

When I was in grad school, people used to come in my office and ask their stupid questions all day. So I instituted the following game, which not only caught on, but greatly reduced the interruptions.

If a person asked you a question, you could type it into google (edited to your hearts content). If it was on the first page, they owed you $5. If it was the first hit they owed you $10.

If I were to do this now, I would add: using the feling lucky button and hitting the answer gets you $25.

lmgtfy.com was the oft used site to answer the question when the questions came in by email, and the answer was emailed back.

Not to mention voila/viola...see that one a lot.

The big one for me is the inappropriate use of...of. Such as would of or could of...it's would have/would've.

And to think they misspelled "Googol" when they started the company.............:eek:;)

When I first learned of google, I was living in Berkeley, and my landlord was a friend who was part of the silicon valley boom. He said I should try google. I said, "like the number?" He said ypu. I couldn't find it 'cause I was a math major, and I spelled it the math way. He was sad to learn they mis-spelled it that day.

Found an old test of @Tommy's and laughed but then realized I would have had to google to get some of these anyway because I don't remember shit that I learned a hundred years ago apparently.
