Hello friends I'm new to this fourm and was wondering if I can get some help. I'm sure this has been posted a million times already but hey this is just one more.;)

I've play poker almost every weekend with friends and family. Last year I went from my crappy dice poker chip set to some monte carlos. Ehh I like them and all but I think there's other chips out there that are much better.

I'm looking for some real classy chips. i would go for some paulsons but they price they currently go for is far fetched for me atm.

So I'm thinking either some Nevada jacks or some dunes.

But I was hoping this beloeved fourm could give me some other options Hopefully some bright colored chips lol

Thanks- Jamal

What's the budget? Otherwise you'll get a ton of information that might not even apply.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Get samples first.

For only $1000 more you could get custom clay chips from CPC ;)

Honestly, just save yourself of all the cost of experimentation, and just get customs.. :)

But seriously, if you're looking for nice decent entry level chips, china-clays are probably the way to go. Chips like the CPS or Majestic chips are not bad (and newer to the market). Old standbys like Milanos or Pharaohs chips are popular too.

Agree with getting samples of all the chips first, so you'll know what you really like compared to others. Sounds expensive to pay for a bunch of samples, but it'll really save you money in the long run, and be a nice start to your poker chips samples set collection (that we pretty much all have).

Welcome to the forum!

Give us more details on what you're looking for and your game requirements. Stakes, tourney vs cash, number of players, etc...

Wow! I really appreciate all the help✊ but how we play our home games might be a little unorthodox to some of you, or it might not lol.

We play cash games usually ranging from 6-8 people. We just divide the 300 chips among us, and the stakes start off as $1/$2 then go up after players are eliminated. So yeah. But customs just might be the solution huh

I have the Monte Carlo poker club chips also. I like them. Sure better than those light weight paulson chips ;-).... Honestly, I had never even touched a paulson chip. Just my two cents, but I'm in the same boat as you. What I plan on doing is staying with my monte Carlos and try to save up and get some nice custom chips.

Kinda. Usually blinds go up at regular intervals, not when players are eliminated.

Agreed, but I'd heard of some folks doing it like this. Might not be my first choice, but I can't think of a major reason a casual game couldn't be played like this?

Never fear OP, before long you'll be offering other newbies advice on Paulsons vs CPC chips, and tourney structure! Ha!

Seems like yesterday I was posting about wanting nice chips, getting some Milanos, then having someone tell me my Granite poker table top might not be a good surface for "clay"... Thus started my downward slide towards better chips, table building, and so on.

I might suggest trying to bring along a few of your buddies along on the journey... Get them into chips now (encourage them to come here and help research nice chips). Bring to us... We'll help steer them in the right direction. We'll show them the power of the dark side...

For me, my understanding of the game, etiquette and structure, have far outpaced my old buds (who I played with casually for 20 years). We still get together to play from time to time, but our games are vastly different (not really a good mesh anymore). Obv you won't be able to force your players to progress with you...

Best of luck and most importantly, post lots of pics of whatever you decide to purchase and stop back often for solid chip advice :) and funny (or not so funny) memes.

This concept of gettint to the next round when a plyer gets busted can be nice! Especially when you play a casual game with some friends.
Never tried it but I will have to when I will be with some new poker players.

Anyway you guys should try the tournament rules with blinds and rounds...

You will find all the answears to your questions on this forum :)

For 6 to 8 players, in tourney style, 300 chips are enough.
I would recommend you 2 breakdowns :

1) Base 5 (for T1000 or T1500 like in most of online SnG)
100 x $5
100 x $25
80 x $100
20 x $500

Base 25 (usually people prefer this for tourney)
80 x $25
80 x $100
60 x $500
60 x $1000
20 x $5000

Just pay attention that some websites sell chips by rolls of 25 (e.g. if you go for China Clay like Pharaoh, Majestics or CPC).

If you want high-end chips (e.g. Paulson) getting chips without denom (e.g. Paulson StarBurst or Cherries) - if you don't mind - might be a good option to stay in the budget.
