Good morning Chippers,

I’m currently in the market for my first set. Looking to get a 600pc Tournament set.

Initially my budget and research indicated that some Apache CC’s would be perfect. However, as I go down the rabbit hole of PCF I’ve discovered Tina’s as another great option.

Which of course lead me back to Apache to review their ceramic options. To which I noticed Apache has the Empire and Taj Mahal “cards mold”, and also the Monaco “web mold”. Are these any different then what is offered in the group buy? Other than the Apaches “appear” to be more expensive. Although I’ve heard they have good quality control, as far as CC goes.

Obviously I went and ordered some samples from both vendors. But I’m curious if anyone who has experience with both and which did you prefer? Could be any reason, such as quality control, customer service etc.

Thanks,
Anthony G

Bumping as I see Apache has a 39mm “web” mold available now. Will be looking to sample that with the Tina’s I got coming in.

Agreed with above. Between the two chips molds/styles, I recommend spending the extra to go with a hybrid (web/sun/greek) vs card mold:

What chips do you currently play with? I am curious once you get the samples how they compare to a what I am assuming is a dice set. Now I know everyone will say an obvious upgrade in feel but I am wondering from someone like you who is just getting into it how big of a difference is.

That being said, the web mold sunset beach chip just looks a lot better vs the card mold, in the picture above.

Fun fact: I actually don’t own any chips. My friend has what I also assume are dice chips. They’re the same thing I had like 15-20 years ago. Other than casino chips that’s all I know.

But I do have a bunch of samples being shipped over the next week. Everything from metal slugs, Apache china clay & ceramic, BRProPoker ceramic, Tina’s to CPC and some Paulsons.

So I hope to provide everyone here with a fresh perspective as I run the gamut of modern poker chips. At the expense of making myself look like a fool no doubt. But when the dust is all settled and I get my first set, I’d be happy to send over some samples to anyone who needs them.

Just a newbie here, so everyone can correct me if I am wrong.

Tina does’nt have a website.

Best way to view something similar to a website is to look at any of the recent Tina Group Buys. There you will likely have the most comprehensive view of Tina chip options and what an ordering process looks like.

I believe Apache poker chips (www.apachepokerchips.com) are very similar to Tina chips in a supply chain type of way but composition wise they deviate…. I think.

Or there is always the second hand market of PCF classifieds or eBay.

Hope this helps.

Does Tina’s have a web site?
Tina is a sales person from a Chinese company on Alibaba. She was lucky enough to be the contact when a member first reached out to have custom chips made a few years back. There's lots of other sales people and compainies that offer ceramic custom chips on Alibaba, but since Tina has been working so extensively with the PCF crowd, it's best to continue to use her as a contact.
That said, I totally recommend using one of Justin's group buys for Tina chips. With the time difference, language barrier, money exchange, etc., it's well worth it. Plus, so many pitfalls that you might experience in the process have already been worked out.
The term "Tina Chips" has come to mean the certain type of ceramics that we have been purchasing for the last few years here on PCF.

I’m on the same boat. It’s been years since I bought any chips. I got samples of majestics and royals from Apache. They are really nice. The Monaco ceramic are also very nice but a bit slippery when stacked. I need to get Tina samples of Azteca and kgb. The forum is a true wealth of knowledge.

I recently purchased a 1200 piece set of Bank series from ApachePokerChips. They are a good quality chip. I like them. They are a little thinner than some other chips so you have to be careful on which carrier you buy. 21 chips will fit in many carriers. Make sure you buy the carriers from ApackePokerChips that are recommended for their China Clays. I like the bank series because they have values with no other advertising. They are a simple and clean design.

I thought I would really like their chamfered edges. They are clean and constant. However, I find it harder to riffle them. I probably just need more practice.
The diameter is a little larger than Paulsons. The are pretty constant in diameter but if you look closely you can see some variation.
