We're gearing up to kick off the 5th year of our poker club, and I’ll be hosting the first tournament of the season. I’m thinking about shaking things up a bit when it comes to prizes.

Typically, we pay out the top spots, have a bounty system where players can cash in their bounties at the end of the game, and offer a prize for the high hand.

I’d like to hear what kind of prizes are awarded in your tournaments. Whether it’s something traditional or unique, I’m hoping to incorporate some fresh ideas to start the new season with a bang. Let me know what’s worked well for you.

Hey, i'm organising my first STT that is a deepstack mystery bounty format this weekend. (9 players)

Buy-in is $35 : $20 going to normal prize pool and $15 for the bounty.

I've setup my bounty rewards as following:
1x $50
2x $25
1x $10
5x $5 worth of lottery scratchcards.

I was inspired by others that also did this and thought this could be fun.
A knockout rewards you a bounty chip of the eliminated player. Once you are eleminated you can draw one of the unmarked envelopes for a chance of above mystery prizes.

Planning on doing trophies at my next large Tournament.

A bag of nuts or beef jerky is good as prize too.

I like this one adds excitement with the envelopes. If the scratch ticket wins jackpot you should make disclaimer you get half lol

Agreed. I’m going to implement this at my next tournament. Really like it. Way more exciting than just having a player turn in bounty chips and get paid for however many they have. Thank you for the info!

I do trophies to first in my annual tournies.

My Spring bounty tourney is movie themed, so the trophy fits accrodingly:
  • Year 1: Highlander - Mini McLeod sword
  • Year 2: Terminator 2 - Endoskeleton head
  • Year 3: Back to the Future - Diecast DeLoreon
The Fall tourney is loosely based on Wrestlemania so the winners get a mini belt from Undisputed Belts.

I did something a little different for a mystery bounty last year.

Bounty was $20. I took $10 and put it on each player (knock someone out, get $10).

Then I took the remaining $10 from each player and pooled it together. We had 8 people, so $80.

On the bounties, I bought these mini playing cards from Amazon. I took out the Ace of Spades and some random ones, shuffled them, and taped them on the back of each bounty.

If you knocked out a person, you took their bounty chip ($10) and peeled back their card. If you knocked out the player with the Ace of Spades? You also got the $80 mystery bounty.

And if we got to the bubble but the mystery bounty hadn’t been found yet? Everyone remaining would have peeled off our cards, and the person who survived til then would have gotten to keep it.

It created a lot of fun and a ton of thrills each time a player would peel back a card.

haha, won't do that but sure do hope if the person wins it he/she will reward me for putting the winning ticket in that specific envelope
