Hello! First post so any information/advice is appreciated :)

I have my eyes on a set of Majestic Poker Chips through Apache Poker Chips and those are sold by x25.
Aiming for 300 chips because I think it should be sufficient for now and I don't want to break the bank. I can always add more if needed though.
Thoughts? ^_^

Structure:
- T5000 (100 BB)
- 25/50 Blinds
- ~6 players
- 1 Re-Buy available
- 2 to 3 Hours
--------------------
300 Bank Chips
100 x T25
125 x T100
50 x T500
25 x T1000
------------------
T5000
8 x T25
8 x T100
4 x T500
2 x T1000

Welcome. Since your starting stacks include:

25 x 8
100 x 8

You shouldn’t really need any more T100’s than T25’s, so I’d build in some additional flexibility by going with 50 x T1K.

For the above parameters, you will need the following chips at a minimum for a six-handed tournament with 8/8/4/2 T5000 starting stacks:

50 x T25 -- 48 required for starting stacks (2 extras)
50 x T100 -- 48 required for starting stacks, 2 used for T25 color-up (0 extras)
25 x T500 -- 24 required for starting stacks (1 extra)
25 x T1000 -- 12 required for starting stacks, 1 used for T25 color-up, 10 used for 2x re-buys (2 extras)
---------
150 chips minimum (5 extras)

A six-player T5000 tournament will end no later than 3 hours with 15-minute levels, 42% average blind increases (33%-50% range), and one 15-minute color-up break at the midpoint. T100 chips will still be in play at tournament end, so color-up/removal is not necessary (or recommended).

If wanting to later expand to 8 players with T10000 stacks (200bb, 12/12/3/7) with re-buys (0/0/5/1), go with this breakdown:

100 x T25 -- 96 required for starting stacks (4 extras)
100 x T100 -- 96 required for starting stacks (4 extras)
25 x T500 -- 24 required for starting stacks, 1 used for T25 color-up (0 extras)
75 x T1000 -- 56 required for starting stacks, 2 used for T25 color-up, 15 used for 3x re-buys (2 extras)
25 x T5000 -- 5 used for T100/T500 color-ups, 3 used for 3x re-buys (17 extras, which can also be used for re-buys, add-ons, or larger starting stacks)
---------
325 chips

An eight-player T10000 tournament will typically end no later than 4 hours with 15-minute levels, 41% average blind increases, and two 15-minute color-up breaks. Combined with larger and better structured starting stacks, it will also provide a significantly better tournament experience.

A couple of ideas to ponder. If you want to reduce the size of your set, there are a couple of methods you can use...

1) Buy a cheap set that covers a bigger game if you need. I bought a 800pc set of Super Diamonds (always loved those) at .06/per. Cost me about $70 shipped and I'm covered for up to 20 players. Then you can buy a smaller set of your favorite chips which will get used most of the time, but you're covered just in case. This would also allow you to buy the good chips one denom at a time when you have cash. You could get four colors for 400 chips for $24 + shipping.

2) Use BB antes. This eliminates the need for T25's. Start your blinds at 100-100. If you don't use antes to begin with, nevermind. Also this tourney would only be 50 BB, but longer levels would make up for it imo.

But for your tournament, that would mean a SS of 20/6. 125 x T100 and 50 x T500. Get 25 x T1000 for that can handle 4 rebuys or 2 rebuys and 2 more players (people can make change). Apache sells Majestics in rolls of 25, hence the extra chips. 200 chip total for $78 + shipping.

Or...

you could go SS of 10/4/2. 75 x T100 and 25 x T500. Need 12 x T1000, but I'd get 50 for rebuys/chip ups. 150 chips total for $58.50 + shipping. You could also make your stacks bigger, going 10/4/4 to make it 7000 for 70BB.

Also, watch Apache's forum. He's putting together a set of 43mm chips on the Majestic mold that will cost about the same. It'll have varying edge spots and some pretty cool color combos.

I attached what I use for BB antes. Not having the 25's greatly reduces the number of chips, imo. I'm guessing your game would end around level 8-10, so 30 min blinds would take ~5 hrs, 20 min would be ~3.5 hrs.

Good luck chipping!

Thanks for the advice guys. After searching through the forums I don't think I'll rush into getting a nice set just yet. @DeeVee8 I really like those 43mm Apache is working on, so I might just sit tight and wait it out. :)

For 6 players max, 200 chips are more than enough. With the following breakdown you can even cover up to T20,000 if you want to play once in a while a deeper tournament (incl. color-up) :
- T25 x 50 (incl. 2 spares)
- T100 x 50 (incl. 2 spares)
- T500 x 25 (incl. 1 spare)
- T1000 x 55 (incl. 2 for color-up per player and 1 spare)
- T5000 x 20 (incl. 1 for color-up per player and 2 spares)

Up to 4 players you can play with 12/12/5/x/x.

And for 5-6 players you can play with 8/8/4/x/x.

For 6 players T5000, you can make starting stacks as :
- T25 x 8
- T100 x 8
- T500 x 4
- T1000 x 2

And do the rebuy with 5 x T1000.

Kid.

This is from 100 years ago so don't recall exact breakdown. But I used a 300 chip Paulson Le Noire set with only 100/500/1k chips in it for home games of around 8 players I think
