USB Ports Patented, Cease & desist (2 Viewers)

There are certainly a lot of people in this community who have no respect for intellectual property law, so this attitude isn’t shocking.
I’d never take sides on this, mostly because it’s none of my business. But I’ve done business with @GorillaGlenn and I’ve enjoyed @T_Chan ’s contributions to this forum for years, so I appreciate both of them. All I’ll say is that in my opinion, people should put down their torches, mind their own business, and let these guys mind theirs.

While I'm inclined to agree to let them go at it their way, Tony also came to the forum for some feedback regarding the issue and feedback is being provided. I'd steer clear of someone who sends me a Cease and Desist then tries to talk to me on the phone after that. That's just unethical if you're looking at it from a business perspective.

On a separate vendor issue, I'm now selling pitchforks.... 3 bucks each or 5 for 12. The best pitchforks PCF can buy......
A bulk deal for pitchforks? Nah. Make a deal that includes both the pitchfork I need and a torch I need. Then we can do business

This has nothing to do with my views on IP. Thanks for making the assumption that I have no respect for it. I'm just voicing how I intend to spend my money.

Weird how you're so cool and calm about this matter but lost your mind and manners because a $1 tuck box wasn't included in your game plaque card order.

Well, he came to a poker forum looking for legal advice. It may be a coincidence that the forum he came to is one where he’s a hugely loved and respected member and vendor, it it may also be a coincidence that his adverse party is also a vendor here, albeit a fairly new and unknown one.
if I were cynical and suspicious, I’d wonder if Tony came here looking for advice or for PR support.
Again, none of my business, and after this comment, I’m staying out of it. But since I just said what I said, it seems appropriate to add that Tony has certainly earned all the love and support he enjoys here.
I hope this works out for everybody, somehow.

I personally felt bad because Tony as a little worried and somewhat shaken up by receiving this letter. That was clear when he mentioned he was in semi-panic mode and removed the option from his website. There's no doubt that Tony has a TON of respect and support on the forum to say the very least. Its disappointing however that the party responsible for sending the C&D is also a vendor here. Way to scare away potential customers. Job very nicely done.

It wasn’t about the buck for me. It was about the buck for the other guy, and that’s why I lost my mind. Totally a penny wise, pound foolish situation.

this is something we put together and designed well before there was charging on/under/or in tables.

Pretty sure I was charging phones on USB cables at poker tables well before 2013. And this isn't even patentable. Something has to be non-obvious and novel to be patentable. Screwing a charger to a table is obvious. Again, nice try.

If you had designed some flip-out mechanism where the user presses a button that pops out the charger, then sure, patent your mechanism. But just the idea of attaching a charger to a table? lol. GFY

This was brought to our attention and yes, we do own the rights to integrated USB charging integrated into the perimeter of gaming tables, this is something we put together and designed well before there was charging on/under/or in tables. We have both the utility and design patent and this table is a signature table of ours that has become a staple in the poker community and is the official poker table of the WSOP. This is important to us and our business so we of course wanted to protect that before others started to copy us. Patents are also a very standard practice in business.

There are ways to have USB charging that do not infringe on our patent and copy our table. For example, the sit n charge system or just screwing ports to the bottom doesn't infringe on what we do, but as Tony mentioned here, it is not as good.

As mentioned in the letter, the purpose of the letter was to make him aware of this and also start a dialogue with Tony, in private, on coming up with a solution that we can work together and probably even help him improve what he is doing with our kits. We have always respected his work, and him, and are happy to open a dialogue as was mentioned.

I am probably commenting more than I should publicly.
As mentioned in the letter, Tony, feel free to reach out and email me glenn@gorillagaming.net

When I opened the letter I did not know that it was from Gorilla Gaming. I did not recognize the name and the company name wasn't mentioned. Though I guess technically it's not from Gorilla Gaming, it's from Glenn.

Since it appears you were aware who I was, but were inclined to send me a cease and desist letter from your lawyer rather than send me a PM or email, I will return the courtesy and will be sending my reply via lawyer as well rather than email. As mentioned in your letter, I will reply to your lawyer since your contact information was not provided.

Please note that I have removed that option from my site and will not be selling the integrated USB ports for the foreseeable future, unless my IP lawyer advises me differently.

Well, he came to a poker forum looking for legal advice.

OP specifically said "not looking for legal advice".

I've been refraining from posting any more in this thread after I realized it was from another vendor. I'm going to close the thread as I don't want this to escalate any further.

Thank you to everyone who provided their suggestions, I'm no legal expert, especially with respect to US law, so those comments were very helpful.

Sorry, but this type of bullshit absolutely boils my blood. There is nothing novel at all about his idea or "invention". Same with his other bullshit patent where he tries to patent a basic poker table design (and one that predates his patent by decades at every casino/card room across the globe). This is just predatory bullshit where someone tries to steal from others. I guarantee this clown was sitting at a $2/4 limit holdem game at the Sahara in 2012 and he asked the guy next to him if he had a charger and the guy replied, "just plug it in to the USB cable under the table". "BRILLIANT!" he thought. So he went home that night and looked to see if anyone had patented the "idea", and filed away after discovering no one had.

Gorilla Gaming will never get a penny from me, and I'll be on an agressive forever campaign to ensure that others share that viewpoint.

Campaigns are the worst.

A rainman campaign sounds like a nightmare.
