Although Mrs. Bentax is not a particular fan of Las Vegas (she was there once about 10 years ago and dealt with Vegas for 3 days in exchange for 3 days in Zion and Bruce Canyon), she really wants to go to the USA Sevens Rugby Tournament this spring. Who am I to deny her what she really wants!

Anyway, it's been a very long 3+ years since I've been to Vegas (I used to go once or twice a year), so I'm looking for some advice on where we should stay, and more importantly, where I should play. Last time I was in Vegas I played primarily 2/5 cash at Aria and Rio (it was during the WSOP). In past trips I've played a decent amount at MGM and Caesars too. And while we're at it, anywhere I need to go to harvest chips ;)

Aria, Wynn, and Sheldon (I want to ban how you spend money) Adelson's place (who's name I won't mention because I cannot support his personal crusade to end online poker) are still the best places to play poker. Caesars new room is still nice enough and decently run, but a bit of a letdown compared to the old room that was boarded up to make more room for a dance club.

I'll be returning in December and will update you, provided I remember this thread in a month.

I've played in Aria and the other place, but never got around to playing at the Wynn the last couple times I was in Vegas. Didn't know Caesars room closed and reopened in a new location. I think I only played 1/3 and 2/5 there a few times and don't recall it being particularly good or bad one way or another.

I'm sure I'll post and/or bump this thread again when the trip gets closer as I realize my trip is almost 4 months away. I was just excited and posted because it's been so long since I've been to Vegas ;)

Tell her to watch it on TV and head to bbotb instead ;)

This was my alternative response.:

When are you planning on being there ? I will be there March 5-12 for my annual veterinary conference.

March 3-7 :)

I really wanted to make it down to the Melee in February too, but I just don't think the timing is going to work out for that one :(

We should at least try to meet up in Vegas.

Surely you can convince your wife to spend a weekend at the beach in February :sneaky: She gets a tan, and you get to play poker

Absolutely. :)

She's not the issue; It wouldn't be hard (at all) to convince her to spend a weekend at the beach, especially in February coming from Upstate NY.

I agree with Zombs comments above... Aria and The Venetian are the places to play imo... There's a couple of other places in which tournaments are okay as well, with good value... For cash though, those two are the nuts imo... Not too fond of the Wynn poker room though... Much smaller than the other two and very, very tough games there... Maybe the toughest in town for 2/5 i believe... Budget permitting, I'd stay either at The Venetian (sorry @Poker Zombie ) or at Aria as I LOVE having my room close to my tables, LOL!!

I used to camp at The Venetian but the last time I was there it felt like the nit room. Kept changing tables and no action anywhere. Maybe just that day. Also I had just smashed the $2/$5 Aria game with a sledgehammer so maybe my expectations were set too high.

No need to say sorry to me - this lady is the one truly hurt by Adelson:

I think tried to play at the Wynn once right after it opened, but there was a substantial wait so I just went elsewhere. No big loss I suppose if in fact it's one of the tougher games out there ;)

I've only played at the Venetian a few times, not nearly enough to make any kind of assessment. That said, I had very similar experiences to what you described in terms of a lack of action. Again, it could have just been those days and those particular tables I was at, but I don't remember having an overwhelming desire to rush back.

The Aria, on the other hand, has always been very good to me. I played quite a bit there on my last three trips to Vegas and I didn't have a losing session, aside from the one session of PLO, which was break even. Considering that was my first time playing PLO in a casino, I was quite happy with the results :)

Looked back through some pictures, only found one live stack shot from Aria. Based on the orange juice and time stamp, I'm pretty sure it was an early session for me (and the end of a long session for most of the other players). That tends to be a good combo :D

The aforementioned Aria session. In for $400 out for $3200 in a four hour period.

That one was definitely exceptional for me!

$1200 profit is nothing to sneeze at.

Not, it's certainly not. Over the last 5-6 years I've averaged right around $65/hour at 2/5, so $1200 in 4 hours is well above that benchmark :)

Tell her the truth. Tell her Mr Tree was a giant luckbox and then donked a chunk of it off at S@P II. [emoji13]

Or I can remind her that even thought I didn't win as much as Mr. Tree at Aria, I still used over half my winnings from that trip and bought her the Mac Book Pro she wanted (y)

Several of my friends play Rugby and go every year. I may go with them in March.

Cool. It's been almost 15 years since my wife played, but I think she still stays in touch with some of her rugby friends, some of which will probably go out to Vegas too for this.

Just made reservations at Aria. Now the hard part, waiting 4 months :(

I have lots of friends that head down their regularly and their preferred poker room by far is at the Aria. I think the Wynn and Venetian are worth a visit if you have time.

They do offer a poker rate at Aria if you play 5 hours or one tournament per day.

Thanks, I was unaware of that. Do you just let them know ahead of time that you plan to play 5+ hours a day and then they verify it before giving you the rate?
