Just got back from vegas today at noon, went to two different post office locations to pick up chips and then made a nice drive to pick up some oddball metal chips and back to the house by 3. All in a few hours work for a chipper.
While in vegas I was able to pick up a rack of blue 1's from the cashier cage on my first morning in vegas. On my last morning I got up and packed early so I had time to visit the poker room. When I got down there it was completely empty save for one woman who was walking around wiping down the rails of the poker tables. Not a player, dealer or anyone in sight. She noticed me and came right over. I explained to her that one of the dealers had told me that it was ok to buy a rack of chips. I asked her if that was something she would do and told her I would gladly tip her $20 for the hassle. She told me yes she could do that. Just in case I had $400 ready in my back pocket. I then asked her if it wasnt too much trouble for me to buy 4 racks so I could pick out the best 100 chips. She paused for a moment as if she was going to say no. Instead she grabbed a different set of keys and said she had an idea. Instead of opening up the drawer where they normally pull out racks, she turns around and opens the two big doors on the cabinet behind her. Insdide was something so beautiful. It was rack upon rack upon rack of $1 chips. There had to be 15k chips in there. She then proceeds to get down on her knees and dig through rack after rack after rack. I was secretly hoping the mint racks were in the back. Unfortunately she told me there are no new racks. After at least 10 minutes she finished looking at every single rack and picked out 4 from the very back. She brings them over and tells me that there are some basically new chips spread through these 4 racks. She directed me to a table and I got to work. Found about 87 seemingly uncirculated chips mixed in with the warped baddies. I took the 4 racks back to the counter and asked if by chance she would help me find 13 more nice chips. She was happy to oblige. She opened the back doors again and rack by rack went through. First rack 2 chips. Second rack 3 chips. She asked how many more I needed. 8 more. Rack by rack she found me 8 more sharp chips. I told her how much I appreciated her help and then got the hell out of there just in case someone else walked by and stopped her.
I head over to the cashier with my last ten blue $1 chips and my rack in hand. I hand her the blue chips and she asks about the chips in my hand. I said Im keeping these. She said wow those look new. I mean really new. She then got me my cash and for a second time looked at the rack and said how new they looked. That they looked like they havent even been used. It made me smile inside.
