Flush
From the moment that I first started collecting chips/sets over 12 years ago... I have always been intrigued with the idea of creating a custom, or semi-custom, set to use/keep. The only problem was that I couldn't ever think of an idea, or name, that in my opinion was worthy enough of becoming something of permanence or that I wouldn't tire of quickly. At the same time, my love for the game of poker and all things poker/gambling/Vegas/etc. related including movies, books, etc. grew also. This is what has led me to create...
The Villa Capri Card Room & Lounge
Background:
I grew up in Kansas City, MO [well, actually the suburbs, but it was close enough] and have always been fond of the history, culture, and anything & everything related to the city. From music, to food [BBQ
], to sports, to art, etc. I have had a love for my "hometown" and the history/stories that it has provided me over the years as well as others. One of these stories in particular has always stuck with me over the years, and that was the connection between KC and Las Vegas. As mentioned earlier, my love for both of these places and the connection related to gambling [poker] made this an obvious choice to study and learn more about which eventually led me to the idea for this set.
As I am sure most of you have seen the movie Casino [the 1995 Scorsese film featuring DeNiro, Pesci, Sharon Stone], the Mob’s control of skimming at Las Vegas casinos is exposed when authorities learn about it from a surveillance microphone in a Kansas City grocery store.
That’s not exactly how it happened.
In reality, the bug was planted at a dinner table with bench seats in a now-demolished Kansas City pizzeria, The Villa Capri.
Hoping to learn about late-1970s warring Mob factions in this Missouri city on the Kansas border, authorities instead uncovered a bombshell: Kansas City’s Civella crime family illegally controlled a money pipeline originating from inside the Las Vegas Strip’s Tropicana hotel-casino.
This history only seemed fitting and the name struck a chord with me... the connections were there, and the story was amazing! It was meant to be...
Location:
Always from... Kansas City, MO [although will be used wherever I currently live, Dallas, TX for now]
The Chips:
Coming soon...
Initial Mock-Up:
Coming soon...
