it's really hard to get more chips to compare them with, but these white chip samples i got, after breaking them in for a month or so (were mint) have a super nice chalky texture. they're also higher pitched.

these IGs don't have the chalkiness, feel more plastic, and sound lower pitched

they are all approx the same weight as BRPros i bought new from the store 5 months ago

the blue harrahs chip feels a little bit heavier than all of them.

what exactly is making the differences in texture/sound (other than the colouring being a different material)?

These are all casino Paulson chips.

The Indiana Grand are from a closed casino with the chips made availabele via @TheChipRoom quite a few years ago.

The rest are Las Vegas chips... with some still "live" at those specific casinos.

The sound and texture differences partly have to do with the mold they are made on (you have several "house" molds in that group). Some is age and formulation. The Grands are likely an older formulary than 'current' chips from them.

The BRPros you are comparing to are ceramic chips which are made with a completely different process and of a very different material.

Main Street, Fremont, Western, Binyons, Royale, PH are leaded/semi-leaded. Resorts World are not at all though but it's probably not coming through in your small stack.

I have a few different barrels/racks from 2007 that are all very similar - definitely not fully leaded but not newer unleaded.

Yeah those are all paulsons. If this is your whole sample collection, you're ahead of the game. PAULSON = KING!

how does mold make any difference to texture?
the white rhcs have a different texture to the coloured rhcs. the white house molds have the same texture as the white rhcs

ah this must be it. How do you know if these chips are going to be semileaded if you're buying online?

There isn’t really a good way to know definitively. Chip Guide is a great resource to know when a chip was issued which gives a rough idea. Pre-2000s are almost always leaded. Early 2000s is hit or miss. More recent is unleaded.

The best way is to get a barrel in hand which may or may not always be possible.

It's the texture in the mold but also the impression in the edge of the mold. Two otherwise identical chips (colors, similar spots, etc.) but one on a house mold vs. say the RHC mold will feel and sound different because of the amount of material in outer part of the chip. Contact area has as much to do with how a chip feels and handles as texture.

It's all interconnected.

to add to the f’ing joke, Jacks won’t provide an ounce of info on what colours work well with the ‘value’ ceramic (other than just use CMYK and hope for the best), even though they’re more expensive than Tina. You have to go up to the next tier, paying significantly more just to get any of that info
