like the title says

what is the best method for hand cleaning chips ?

I used this soap on some Tachi $500s - https://www.samsclub.com/p/members-...ergent-1-gallon/P990342579?xid=plp_product_10

I left them in the 25/75 solution - I did 8oz of soap and 24oz of water - I might have just oversoaked them I left them in for a while

Didn't have good results I left them in there for a while and messed up a Barrel - changed the color of the chips not as bad as what happened to my Empress $25s though

so for anyone who hand cleans

whats the best soap or whatever you can use that will not change the colors of the chips

any ideas I would appreciate it thanks

Pics the 10 chips in the middle are the ones that got jacked up

Updated the 20 in the middle are the ones that turned color I oiled them but didnt help much

I copied this literally word for word from the last thread you made. You’re using way too much soap and soaking for too long. If you want all the chips to match when you’re losing some color, clean them all the exact same way.

I use just the standard blue Dawn, squeeze the bottle hard once for maybe a gallon of water. Not a ton of Dawn added.

I also use lukewarm water, warm at best. Soak for 5-10 minutes. Change out the water when it gets too dirty, or if you see too much color transfer in the water it might be too hot. Definitely expect to lose a little color either way during soaking/scrubbing, especially in red chips.

If they’re really disgustingly bad you could increase either of those, but I’ve never needed to add a ton. The soak just loosens any dirt, the scrubbing takes it off.

I only use like a 32oz or 64oz plastic storage container to soak so your saying do like 1oz or like .5oz of soap ?

And yeah its prob cause I am using too much soap got to be

Yeah the empress I used Xtra with Oxi laundry detergent def not using that anymore just liked it cause it was cheap

And this time I used that sams club soap

Might only use that stuff on white chips

I got 2 US I just never used them prob never will

Just trying to find a good cleaner thats cheap

Dry them out. Like dry them with a desiccant or in the sun. I had some blues shift color like this and it just took an excessive amount of drying out the microscopic water it had absorbed.

I oiled the $500s twice they don't look as bad

this all boils down to me just being DUMB LOL

I honestly don’t even measure it. I just squeeze the bottle once into the bottom of the container I use to soak them in, then fill with water. I’d guess under a fluid oz for a gallon, so even less for 32/64oz.

Most soaps like that are heavily concentrated, and if you’re soaking them then a small amount goes a long way.

I use the same method as btbmason, one thing i wanted to add is to clean the gunk out of the hat and cane with a toothpick before soaking. After that, rub with a microfiber towel between your fingers. Use the brush on the worst of them as that will wear out your fingers most.

I would rinse very well and perhaps twice if needed. I have cleaned a bunch of tires and filthy chips without issue except for a bowl of 5s I left soaking too long or did not rinse well enough and the pigment was extracted on some of them. This was more noticeable after a couple of days.

Cheap bike tires but lesson learned about soaking/ rinsing.

These purple chips were observed with colour inconsistencies. It is possible that there are several versions of $500 with the same label. Whatever you do clean them at the same length of soak, temp and cleaning agent. I clean my chips in a Vevor 6L ultrasonic using tap water at 38 celcius (up to 42celcius for some colours, but no higher) and generally Palmolive, though really whatever dishsoap I have is what I use. Approx 30 seconds per side and a toothbrush run over each chip on the face and side to loosen dirt then reshake for approx 30 seconds per side. This has resulted in the least colour loss for me personally. Purple and pink chips tend to loose colour so I suggest lower temp water 38celcius or less (some green chips also).

I think I just let them soak way to long I forgot about the barrel and they sat for along time

I do hot dawn water bath, scrub lightly with magic eraser and then into rinse water bath. Layout on paper towels and flip after 15 mins.
