So I’ve had three cash games with my Wandering Eye Paulson RHC set. All in, I’m into the set around $3000. For me that’s a lot of money.

I’ve gotten a few compliments but the comment I receive the most is “what was wrong with the other chips?” The other chips were from “Tina”.

We also play low stakes. A cash game has a max buy in of $60 and we play dealers choice. There’s some hold ‘em and Omaha, but it’s usually the carnival style games like screw your neighbor, in between, and draw/wild card games.

So I ask, what is the point of spending all this money on poker chips to play with people who don’t appreciate them? (And they all work in table games with Paulson chips) Should I have just stuck with the custom Tina set? I see people here posting home game pics of sets that cost $6k and up with captions like in for $60 out for $100. Why?

I doubt we'll ever play higher stakes than $0.05/$0.10 NL but that's not going to stop me getting the chips I really want to play with. That said I have friends who can appreciate a good collection/collectible even if it's not for them, so I'll still have fun discussing it all with them =)

You buy em for yourself
Boom! I've been through a whole bunch of sets and I don't think any of my players cared about any of them. Though I have heard "It seems like we play with different chips every time we play here." So at least they noticed. And I think for a while, I was buying more and more, just to get likes here on PCF. But that's a dumb reason. There are lots of dumb reasons to do things. But as long as it makes you happy, who cares? And after a bunch of years and a bunch of sets, I finally have one that might keep me happy forever. Some people here want 100 sets to keep them happy forever. Who cares? Enjoy your chips.

The collector and hobbyist in me is why I buy and used chips.

Using and playing with them in game is extra fun / appreciation i get from owing them.

Most of the times, my chips is in display cabinet where I cherish and enjoyed.

So who care what your friends thunk about them, everyone have different taste and hobby.

Just like how I don’t get why one of my buddies collect different expensive watches when I can read my time perfectly on my iPhone. But I still nodded in agreement when he talk about it

For years (10+) wee have been using a set of Chips Casino Paulson bought from the Chiproom. Thought nothing of it.

Paulsons were always my preference and when I could get those for less than $1/chip I jumped on it.

Flash forward to coming back here and seeing current chip prices I was floored. Immediately knew I needed to retire that set!

Really wanted CPC's but the cost was prohibitive to me. Then I found Tinas! After a sample set I was more than sold, I was converted.

Funds permitting in the future I would love a new Paulson set but damn prices are out this world right now. Hopefully one day

Same. Everyone do really like my Matsui plaques though, plus I’m fortunate enough to have two PCFers among the regular crew, who obviously appreciate and obsess as much as I do about everything chips/poker related.

Should I have just stuck with the custom Tina set?
Only you can answer this.

I dislike playing with shit chips and a boring game, I know that even if they appreciate it or not, they won't find a better game at least in the way of equipment.

Its not about anything being wrong with the sets, its that I really enjoy variety

Agreed with others that’s quality chips, nice table, comfortable chairs etc all add to the experience.

We don’t play very often anymore as most of us have younger children so when we do it’s nice to make the most of it! Granted a lot of my players could care less about my chips……..

Nothing was wrong with my old chips. Plastic metal slugged chips with the World Poker logo on them. Used them for 15 years.

When I bought my 1st Paulson set it was actually met with some resistance. Some didn't like the way they shuffled. (Mint & sharp) Some didn't like the weight. (Only 10g) Some didn't like the "expensive" cost ($2/chip) even though they didn't spend a dime on them.

I didn't care what they said & bought another. (Yes, some did think they were pretty, I wasn't alone)

A year & a half later I poked fun at some of the haters by bringing back the old WPT chips. All of them acknowledged that they now prefer the Paulsons & could we please play with them instead.

My point is sometimes people don't know the difference between a Chevy & a Mercedes until they drive them for awhile. And sometimes not even then. (I've always known the difference even before I owned the luxury model)

Why.... For you mostly.
I feel your pain.
Of all my chips the most vocal of my group adamantly prefers my crown casino CC chips as #1 favorite, Apache Royals 2nd. Gotten a hard time for having SPW 25c Peach chips. I like them lol.

Wish we were closer to each other I'd gladly play and enjoy the assortment of nice chips with you.

Hopefully someday we find some more like minded players.
