For some reason I'm really interested in playing Badugi, and, it's been 20 years since I've played. There was a guy that use to call for it when we played back in the day, but, I don't recall much about playing it. For those that play I have a couple of questions... are you playing it 8 handed? Do you reshuffle the discards at some point? How many do you see going to the third bet/draw?

I'm more interested in the mechanics of how it plays out with 8 players. I realize you're likely not going to have all 8 for all three rounds of draws, but, just curious what others experience was with how many go to showdown and do you reshuffle the discards. Just something in looking to add for an occasional choice game/orbit.

Shuffle the discards and deal when the stub runs out.

I would not recommend playing the game with more than 6 players anyway, but it's doable with more.

6-7 players here. I think we played it 8 handed once, and we reshuffled the discards as needed. We probably saw 3-5 players to the last draw on average... we played spread-fixed limit until the last draw which was up to 3x the fixed limit... incited more players to stay in the hands longer.

We throw it in a mixed rotation that I like sneaking into our regular NLH games. Usually only fixed limit and only an orbit at a time. It's usually only 5 handed or less because anyone else in our group has a hard time with it.

I play mixed 7 handed with a dead player button on draw games to play them 6 handed.

Keep a count of the cards left in the stub. If you would use all the cards in a drawing round, shuffle the mucked hands (not discards) into the stub and then burn and deal all draws (don't use the rest of the stub then shuffle, shuffle first). You can add the burns if required. Don't shuffle the discards in unless absolutely necessary so as to avoid any player getting a card back they've already tossed.

You shouldn't really run out of cards too often in Badugi, but Archie, Lowball, Drawmaha and split draw games can be a nightmare due to the 5 player cards and a propensity to draw more cards than in Badugi.

Badugi is an awesome game and usually features in the mixed games at the local casino by me.

Being a 4 card game and rarely will players ever take more than two, you won't run out of cards a ton, even 8-handed. But the only trick is to make sure the discards from previous rounds are kept separate from the the current round discards in the event of a reshuffle needed. This makes it so it's impossible for player to discard to another player on the same round.

We don't play it often but I do remember the first hand I ever played of it where I ended up with a A235 rainbow for a large pot, ~£150, in a 5p/10p/25p pot limit game.

If we do play it it's likely in the form of Badacey.
