Why no seating numbers on custom felts? (1 Viewer)

If you always take seat one in a blinds focused tournament it gives you a distinct advantage. I do not want to take any advantage no matter how big or small over the other participants in my games. I think that speaks to integrity of fairness.

If the host always takes the same seat and everyone else takes a random seat, I think the position of the host in relation to the other players is still random. If you draw for first dealer, then it takes away that advantage too. So, there should be no positional advantage to having one person (the host) always having the same seat. There might be a comfort advantage (e.g. more room or better view of the table) that you could argue exists, I guess. Or am I missing something?

Yup. As long as the button and seating charts are done separately and randomly, who cares if the host chooses his seat before seats are randomized?

I place a small slip of paper with a number and suit in each cupholder. I then pull the card I want to sit at as host and let the rest of the players draw from the rest. If you dont have cupholders you can just place the slips on top of the table or tape them to the back of the chair. You can also just designate one spot as the 1 seat at each table and have everyone sit around from there.

All of our rental tables have them, it helps tremendously when seating players with 6+ tables, and for moving players around. "Sir, can you please go to red table, seat #3?". We hand out seating cards to players which is our business card with a Table # and Seat # on the back side.

In a home game setting, it's not as useful but still can have it's purpose. If you don't have the same number of players as dedicated seat numbers, just ignore the numbers, or players just figure out where to squeeze in.

I like how you did the numbers. Very clear, but not too distracting. Good model if I decide to go this route.

Yes, with my way seat one is always the dealer, if we used a deal for high card then I could always have the same seat. tomato tomahto I guess.

And we draw seating chips each game so if you draw 1 you are the dealer first hand.

Because at a cardroom with a dealer cutout, it’s obvious the seat to the left of the dealer is Seat 1. The rest are left as a counting exercise for the players.

I write seat numbers underneath my table, but I don’t recall anyone actually ducking underneath to check. My players just take my word

I need to sit at a certain place at my table due to my handicap, but want it to be random just like every other player. So I have oversized seating place cards that I place on the table after I’ve drawn my seating chip. Works really well. You can see them here with starting stack tubes sitting on top of them. I always sit in the same seat at my game because it’s (a) closest to thr woodstove I restock throughout the night and (b) it has its back to the projection screen. That way none of my guests lack some view of it.

But rather than picking a number for myself and then arranging seat cards, I just remove that number from the cards used to assign seats.

So if I have 8 players total including me and the dealer, I set out cards upside down including an A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8. The A is to the dealer’s left and I’m two to his right.

Because if I have 6 people playing, I want them spread out, but explaining that we are on my using spots 2,3,5,6,8 is weird. Different games need different spacing, and I wouldn't want anything on my felt that complicates that.

This. Diversification. Sometimes the game is 9 handed, sometimes it’s 8. For 8 handed, seats are in front of the cup holders, for 9 its in between the cup holders. Seat numbers on the felt would be off depending on the number of players. Counting chairs is pretty easy IMO.

I always sit in the 8/9 seat. Everyone else draws for seats.

Here's another idea...

I can't decide on which classic Vegas casino to use as my topper theme. Maybe, I don't need to decide! I could design a topper that has the logos of 10 different casinos around the outside. It could be just decorative....or it could also be functional...e.g., the "Flamingo" seat or the "Sands" or "Bellagio" seats, etc. I might have to make a seating chip set to go with it.

Now the hard part is narrowing it down to 10! My initial list is below. I'm probably missing important ones. I'm thinking the name logo around the outside. For the racetrack, a repeating pattern out of icon logos (e.g. flamingo bird, tropicana fountain, mirage palms, etc.). For the center...I don't know yet.

I feel like your betting line could look really cool as a neon tube

It’s really just extra clutter in the felt. Just like marked spots for your cards. Unless you got the rfid tables it’s kinda pointless.

I’ve been at the casino sometimes and people get weird about having their cup holder dead center on their seat. Sometimes it’s better if you move a little bit for chair space and sacrifice your OCD over the proper placement.

Where did you buy the chip tubes?

I got mine from Spinetti's, but you can also find the tall thin ones on Amazon.

The Spinetti tubes are more durable, so I can pre-load them with rebuys and lob them to the rebuying player.
