I assumed the former, but after rereading the OP I think its the latter. And my expert forensic photoshop skills tell me the light in the room is nearly overhead, while the light on the "chips" is top-right. So. Magnets made to look like chips.

Magnets with chip artwork printed in them. They are pretty thin. I can get some more pics up later.
