Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (16 Viewers)

Introducing... my Layaway Plan.

I’ve heard from a lot of eager chippers who are interested in owning nice sets (up to their taste), but how finances are typically an issue. I’ve had the fortune of finding and buying several amazing sets over the last few months, and I’ve been trying to figure out a way to help earnest chippers who may want to participate in one of my sales, but may not have the financial capacity at the time the chips go on sale.

And then @stavman made a joke on one of my sale threads about a Christmas Layaway Plan.

Which gave me an idea.

For any upcoming sales that feature a nice, but expensive set, I will include the ability for you to buy using a layaway plan. You can dibs on the sale, put some money down, and I’ll hold the set for you for up to 6 months, while you make incremental payments towards it. No interest, no gimmicks, just a way to spread out the cost over time, with a guarantee of those chips being held for you, and the burden of cost being spread over a period of time.

I’m hoping this will help some folks get to the nice sets their passion deserves, but their wallets can’t afford all at once.

It’s just an idea, will try it out on my next big set sale.
This is actually a great idea :)

I’ve had a good friend offer something similar for me for a set I now love. The timing when it came up was just terrible in the middle of house buying. Worked out great for both of us. And 6 months is a generous amount of time too imo. Nice gesture.

The fact that sellers want all money up front for sales in the past has disqualified me from buying a lot of the nicer stuff out there. This is a game changer for someone that has the capital and a steady stream of income but is unable or unwilling to plop down 3 or 4k on a set all at once.

It’s been a bit since I posted some new Pr0n here, and this afternoon was a fun one, oiling chips and taking pictures. My Horseshoe Gardena set, which is ALMOST complete, save for a rack of $50s and a barrel of the mustard 3d14 $1ks.

Question about the $25s to experts like @BGinGA and @pltrgyst — are the round inlays fantasy chips, and the shaped inlays casino chips?

I don’t know, bro. You’ve been here for 3 months. If I was gonna buy a $5k set from somebody I didn’t know, I think it would have to be somebody who had years invested in this community, and still I’d be doing it with PayPal buyer protection.
You’re suggesting I send you a grand a month for 5 months, and then after 5 months, you’ll send me a grail set?
I’m totally not trying to question your integrity or accuse you of anything shady at all. I’m just letting you know what this offer sounds like to an average PCFer.

"It is my understanding that the shaped-inlay chips were ordered but never delivered, and were subsequently sold in the Las Vegas Paulson store. Paulson also later produced additional Horseshoe Casino chips for sale in their store with round inlays and in other denominations.

More importantly for us chip geeks, the awesome chip colors / spot patterns / color combos used for the Horseshoe Casino chips were also later used to create chips in different Paulson home-market fantasy sets -- Le Cove, Casino de Mexico, Foxy's Firehouse, the $1000 chips in the Casino de Isthmus and Fabulous Las Vegas sets, and in many, many other fantasy sets.

Nearly all of the older Paulson home sets have a color/spot heritage link back to the Horseshoe Casino chips. That historical significance should be worth an extra $100 or so at auction, JFCJ."

That’s great feedback. Was just an idea, because I’ve heard people say they can’t afford the more expensive sets. I guess it might only work if the person knew me? They don’t have to use it, I suppose? Honestly, it came up during our PCF poker game last night and people seemed to think it was a good idea, so I posted the thought! Appreciate the feedback. :-)

He has fully established himself bro!!!

Your name was attached in the thread from which I saved it, back in March 2019. Sorry if it was a false attribution!

I've just found a similar older summary from October 2018, with no attribution:

"The Horseshoe Club in Gardena CA was a real card room, and closed in 1989. At some point towards the end, Paulson chips with "Horseshoe Casino" and mostly real shaped inlays were ordered, but they were either never used, or never delivered..... and if the latter, most likely sold in the Paulson store in Las Vegas.

Paulson later produced additional "Horseshoe Casino" fantasy chips, using the same nine base/spot color combinations but with round inlays, and these were sold in the Paulson store. Those same color/spot combinations were also used to produce chips for quite a few different fantasy chip sets (Le Cove, Casino de Mexico, Viva Las Vegas, etc.), prior to the B&G/Bud Jones/Paulson reverse merger that became GPI. The well-known Paulson "fantasy chip colors" lineup all started here.

@courage has also done research (and has a large playable set, along with a comprehensive sample set), and may have additional information."

I think the layaway thing works between friends, but people are already throwing stupid money at things (on their credit cards in many instances I assume). The prospect of pcf loan terms is a terrifying one that could easily lead to problems.

I'd be keeping those kinds of payment terms between friends and in private.

Thanks Mike for the PCA plan , what a true friend :)

Generally speaking, yes -- although the 'casino' $1 chips had round inlays. The shaped inlays were made FOR the casino, but none of the chips were ever actually IN the casino afaik.

Some Paulson fantasy lines had both round and shaped inlays for at least some of their denominations.
CDI98 has round inlays for all denoms, but also shaped inlays for $5, $25, $100, and $500s.
I believe some Scandias had shaped inlays as well - and some even on a different mold pattern (THC and Web)

And the Pyramid Casino fantasy chips had shaped inlays, but not rounds. :confused There really wasn't a 'standard' configuration for home sets.

It is hard to beat a blue $1, yellow $5, white $100 combination. This set is simply phenomenal
