Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (17 Viewers)

I think I caught up. The fracs for my TRK set? Yes, that is a milled, and shaped label creation :)
Nice job on those. There should be a thread dedicted to non circle shaped milled / inlay replaced chips. Ive only seen 3 instances of non circle milled chips. "PCA 1s", "Aztar 5s" and now "NC fracs". Any more around PCF?

Those Fracs wouldn't have been possible without @Gear. Outstanding work as always.

In the absence of finding a solid 3d38 candidate to serve as the hundo for my Lakeshore set, not being a huge fan of IHC chips to fill in that role, and with no real ends to making my fantasy hundo a reality, I’ve been looking at some alternate spot patterns that might be acceptable.

I’ve finally settled on 3ta14 as an option. It opens up the pool of possible candidates, and there is some comfort in the symmetry of the overall spot coverage area being identical, albeit with 3 colors instead of 2.

I was able to track down one full mint rack of this Lucky Derby GHS hundo which can be shape-milled, and has the added bonus of being leaded.

Not a final decision yet, because it would be nice if the spot colors were bolder, but it’s a reasonably good option.

Thoughts?

Love it! Will you do a PS mock up of it with a shaped inlay replacement?

I will, once I have a few more candidates.

The issue with white leaded chips is that there are very few that aren’t considered “sacred”, especially if they have fantastic colors and are in mint condition.

The 3d38 candidates are either impossible to find, or not worthy of a hundo; 3ta14 candidates like this one are pretty, but as one can surmise from initial comments, have a lot of fans and aren’t considered murderable.

And yet, the dilemma is that a hundo for a “grail / coveted” set like this one can’t just be any white chip, either. I would like it to be leaded, and have bright, bold colors. And be available.

Any other white 3ta14 chips that anyone recommends?

It’s a very tough choice indeed - not many options out there, especially in mint or excellent condition.
I use the OCC $10 for my Camino set. This is a murdered chip with a @Gear label.

Edit: But as much as I love this chip, I am not sure it belongs in a line up like the Lakeshores (not bright enough)

Appreciate you taking the time to consider this seriously with both camps in mind. Definitely agree with you on many of these being 'sacred'.

For me the Lucky Derby $100s are not considered sacred, simply by the fact that the rest of the lucky Derby line up is pretty bad. In other words there will never be an epic full set of lucky Derbys, and therefore they are not as valuable to me. I understand if people feel differently though. Obviously they are nice in a mixed hotstamp set, but at the same time they would also be epic if shaped milled in a set like the lakeshores.

That was / is the line of thought that made it a candidate.

Not sure if available but these would work better IMO.

Bonus option. Probably more sacrilidge than murdering hotstamps. Inlay replacement from a place with some history

I’m convinced the chip has to have a shaped inlay. So, that Canadian chip isn’t a great candidate. The Cal-Neva Lodge is way more sacred than the Grand Derby hundo, so much history attached to that hotel.

In that case the harrahs 1 is a no go also. Looks like its something hotstamped or something that already has a shaped inlay.

The Cal-Neva suggestion was a little tongue in cheek.

You know what they say, its easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission...

Not a fan of the milling but I would just say anyone thinking about milling something like mint (leaded?) Cali hotstamp $100s or anything else on that level, please be certain you won’t find something else you like better later. If you know it’s the only/best option and are certain that you plan on keeping them for a long time (there was an incident not too long ago of someone milling Barclays $100s then selling the carcasses a few month later :banghead:), do what you gotta do.

Are you kidding me about the Barclays? OK, that is the worst milling story I've heard yet. Milling and chip murder has gone too far. There, I said it.
