The WPT championship is at Wynn in December and is getting a big media push and tons of hype. Couple reasons why;

  1. It’s at the Wynn.
  2. $15M guaranteed. It’s the largest guarantee for a poker tournament ever (WSOP doesn’t list guarantees). $10k buy in. 3 day 1’s, can enter 1x each day.
  3. There have been tons of satellites across the nation, and there’s even been a bunch of random contests.
  4. I think it’ll be a huge field because it times up just before Christmas. Plenty of time to get home and be with the family. But mid/early December when you could get away.
Anyone going?

Anyone see these random contests/satellites?

Not sure but Wynn poker has always been pretty good I think

IDK if they’ve ever done anything that massive before.

Now the Aria / Wynn might be pulling more players though for cash maybe weekly tourneys
Being the WPT championship I imagine for security let alone brand marketing. The Wynn T chips say “classic” for their tournament brand. WPT will want to brand themselves. Events too big not too, and my hunch is they saw everyone complain at the World Series and hopefully they leave a lot of chips in play. May need to tweet at Matt Savage @savagepoker. I believe he’s the TD/President etc.

Never played a WPT, do they provide the chips or always the casino?

I think every one I’ve played in has used the casinos chips.

I'd play that 8 game if it was $600. But 3k is waaaay out of my tourny buy in range. bummer. I might try a satellite while I'm there.
It looks like there’s the new satellites called milestones. Once you reach a certain chip stack amount you’re automatically in and they take you out of the tournament. Apparently it helps fight against collusion and slow bubble play.

Crazy. Sounds like fun. I'll have to check that out.

More photos of the chips and photos of the old chips with the most plaques I’ve seen in a winners photo!

The milestone satellite concept is very interesting. They were awarding 1 seat per 10.7 buy-ins, so at 20k avg stack, in an ordinary satellite, avg stack would be 214k at end of tournament. They set the milestone at 240k, once you reached this mark, all your chips were out of play and you got a seat. Seems to be calibrated pretty well. Definitely some interesting poker spots and bet sizings to be employing once you’re near the mark with such a novel ICM curve.

Anyone play one?
