WSOP chips on eBay. Theories and myths. (3 Viewers)

Yeah that’s what he says. But still seems to be the one he plays w the most lol.

Anyway. WW isn’t buying these to @ekricket point. As much as they r rhc or he doesn’t chip anymore. And I don’t think anyone is buying these for flipped prices. Retail was high enough.
JD aren't "used" though. I'm sure he would've bought them in his chipping prime though; how could he resist the showoff? It's all moot anyway. Dude hasn't been a chipper in well over a year.

I was told by a family friend that these chips were removed one at a time, over a period of years, and kept safely tucked away.

Those Rio playable sets have just 2x’d in value at least.

Glad I got my two little cappers :)

Now here's an interesting thought I had. If you took one of those chips to the WSOP and used it as a card protector, is the tournament staff gonna start asking you questions? Considering these chips were never supposed to be leaked? Or are the Rio staff the only people who would ever care?

Since the Rio stopped hosting the WSOP:
  • The Rio property was sold to Dreamscape.
  • Caesar's sold WSOP to GG Poker (but still maintain brand and hosting rights for the next 20 years).
Bonus points:
  • These chips were allegedly discovered in a "discard pile" during the recent Rio renovation. (Not sure how believable this is)

So, while it's likely these chips qualify as stolen property on some technical/legal level, I doubt there's anyone strolling around the WSOP field with any vested interest in old/invalid Rio WSOP chips. That is, short of some bored and persnickety NGC regulator.

If you're worried about the slightest possibility of being hassled about it, it's probably best to leave it at home.

I doubt anything would happen. It has not been held at the rio in years.

Who would do that?!

Considering the fact that the Rio owned the chips
