Did a rack of grey chips (actually white) and turned them Snow White with the magic eraser in just a couple minutes. The US barely did anything at all.

The chips cleaned up REAAAAL nice! So, you had an U/S failure? Can you let us know:
  • Ultrasonic Model
  • Cleaning solution
  • Time in bath
  • Temp of water
  • Agitation method
Just curious ...

Ultrasonic will NEVER remove colour transfer or a reacted surface.

Whites tend to need magic eraser much more often. Have had some troubles with yellows as well. No, I'm not talking about race.
That's a great point; this could be color transfer instead of grime. In which, I agree, U/S doesn't take much off (unless you really leave them in there, which is not advised). Another reason you don't see white chips in my lineups...

Ultra works best for hooker juice and grime, but hand washing is best for general cleaning. Ultra won't do a ton against some color fade. It's just massively easier for general cleaning a mass of chips. Each have there place.

US is great for lots of chips with deep grime. But I havent used mine in quite a while now. I have still found the good ol' dish soap and warm water with a sponge method works best. As others have mentioned magic erasers are like micro grain sanding blocks. I prefer not to use those on the chip faces unless necessary. Although I did just buy one of these and the head is about the size of a chip face. Soak in some oxyclean and then hit the chips with this and it does crazy wonders. I specifically bought it because I had pure white Paulsons that I needed to deep clean.

I would think that an electric toothbrush will be better since it could get into the hats and canes. Thoughts on this versus a smaller brush head like a toothbrush?

I was amazed at the results. Only did a couple barrels so far. This is appears to be much more productive. The head is the size of an entire chip. More power but also bristles are a fine size to get into the nooks. I plan to post a video later or at least the results. I just saw this thread and thought it was relevant. I also purchased silicone sheets and lay one down in a back tray. I soak the chips for a bit in water and then can hit them with this brush right in the tray without hand holding them. The silicone prevents them from moving/spinning. I can blast through barrels at a time and dont risk cramps in my hand etc.

I’ve been using one of the cheap ones you get hanging on the rack at the drug store with the regular brushes...maybe $10 or so and takes AA batteries. Definitely works well in the nooks and crannies without elbow grease!

Distilled water is a must in U/S. Most tap water contains impurities that affect the cavitation effects of the ultrasonic, seriously hendering it's effectiveness.

Also, changing out the water every 5 racks or so helps a lot too.

Like I mentioned above I am using this in conjunction with silicone sheets which I lay in a baking pan in the well of my sink. I soak them in soapy water. The silicone prevents the chips from spinning. This way I don’t have to hand hold them. I can just hit one side of a whole batch at once and then flip them over and repeat. The sonic scrubber thing has a slide switch so it just stays on. No pressure needed.

there is also a Rubbermaid branded one but it just wasn’t in stock for me. Also I have only experimented with the brush head in the main photo not the other accessory heads. I will try those eventually.
