"You Need to Know at my Game That..." (3 Viewers)

New players in my game need to understand that if the table isn't full, we can summon Ghost Malone to play with us. The Ghost will be dealt a number of cards, and will have a live hand. After a winner of the pot(s) are determined, those players then need to beat the ghost hand. If the ghost wins, that side of the pot goes to the ghost and is eligible for all players to win the next hand. Ghost money is not in the pot, so it does not change betting for the next hand. If the ghost wins multiple hands, the game will not change until ghost money is cleared.

What makes your game unique, and potentially weird? If you had a new player, what do you need to explain (or warn) them about in advance?

I'll start -

1) in my game if you come to a circus night, you might think there is a player named Ray Rizay. There is not. It is simply the method, in certain games such as derailment, where the pot will get pumped blind. "Rizay" to min raise. "Ray Rizay" to min re-raise, "Ray Ray Rizay", and so on. Pronounced as spelled, or think or if as the bastardized way of saying re-raise in a French accent. You can't invoke Ray Rizay if you've looked. If this begins, you are likely not seeing a flop for less than 10BB. So invoke Ray yourself, look and call pot (super lame), or GTFO.

2) A good half of my players have custom written AI songs by me. Later in the night, once drinks have been flowing a bit, these will regularly be played by me or others at the table. It's awesome, but to the uninitiated super weird and I have to warn them.

What weird shit you got?

Ok I'm gonna need to know how to do #2 as each one of our players has his or her own personality at the table and I'd love nothing more than to have an AI song about them playing from time to time.

do you personally like the ghost?

Our game have a nightly bonus. These bonuses vary from night to night (announced before play starts). Sometimes they are simple, and account for about 1/3 of games:
  • Bad Beat (best hand that lost during the night)
  • High Hand
  • Martini Lounge Jackpot (only used when the Martini Lounge chipset is in play, jackpot carries over if not won)
The other 2/3s are unique:
  • Single player bounty (issued if any particular player has won twice in a row)
  • Damon's Hand (10-5 in the hole). Players earned 1 point if they won with Damon's hand, and one extra point if they went to showdown with Damon's Hand. Damon was a player of ours that died last November. His favorite hand was 10-5, because "you cant make a straight without a 10 or a 5".
  • Iceageddon - draw 2 pente stones if you lose with trips or better. Stones are one of 3 colors, and worth 1-3 points based on color and rarity. Highest total at the ned of the night wins. Iceageddon is the bonus when there is an ice storm and degens still show (hence the 'bad trips' bonus).
  • Star Wars - Players selected a miniature, and was sided Empire or Rebel. When there was just one side left, those players would split $200. Game is played on May the Fourth (be with you).
  • April Fools - Win a hand with a 10 high or less.
This is just 1 year worth of bonuses. There are many more (45 different themes since I started keeping records).

Also, our events are officially dinner parties. We prepare a main, guests bring a side. The side is not required, but it helps keep the game afloat. You start winning and arriving empty-handed, you might find yourself on the B-list (B-list invites go out if we are down to 14 or fewer players). Only one B-lister has gotten an invite since 2015.

Why so harsh on the food? The main isn't usually hot dogs. In the past year it has been:
  • Pulled Pork
  • Chicken Drumsticks: Frenched, Smoked, and seasoned with an orange and habenero dry rub
  • Tatooine Street Food
  • Swedish Meatballs
  • Smoked Turkey
  • Hamburgers
  • Prime Rib
  • Beef Stew
  • Spaghetti, with maranara from scratch
  • Brisket
I'll admit, the quality of the meal goes up after Mrs Zombie or I have good nights, and goes down during a long drought.

Fair enough, especially if we're talking about action that happened in a past round (or especially hand!). The door has to be closed at some point.
Im starting a new game in a new town and want to tighten up and crack down on it.

Also it eliminates bluffs! That can’t be good for the game.
I added a twist to the ghost game. I have a six sided ghost/no ghost die that’s filled after the hand is over. So if you hit no ghost, his hand is dead. 50/50 chance.

Interesting. So instead of going to the ghost hand, you roll the die first?

Note to self... Probably shouldn't stay for the cash game..
There are many good tournament players, and yet they all keep getting crushed by an 85 year old LAG who is pure Baltimore and goes by the name “Sugar”. Tournaments are just so hard to win.

the cash game is a very different beast. Much more social and splashy. Somehow I have fun even if I lose.
Hmmmmmm…… that sounds fun!
Yep!

Yes, that re enters your chance to win on a bluff. Still bluffing is risky unless it’s a semi bluff, small pair etc.

When you win the hand you have to beat the ghost hand if you roll the ghost on the die. If you lose to the die, and the ghost hand, the pot carries on to the next hand.

Great minds think alike! I literally just ordered this figurine earlier this week to hold the ghost hands for a game this weekend!

My game has nothing special except for a large field. I am expecting 36 for my next game. ho hum.

Oh, and my $.25/$.50 cash game now has Omaha, and plays more like a $1/$2 game ... $2/$5 when the straddles get pumping.
I live near Ellicot City would love to join your guy's game sometime!
