Your Beer of Choice? (23 Viewers)

Our beer of choice was a bit unusual tonight. Some really good baby back ribs seemed to call for more than the usual Leffe Brune, so I reached into the depths of the garage refrigerator and pulled out this once-in-a-lifetime bottle:

I don't believe I've ever had a 32-year-old ale before. I wasn't really expecting it to be drinkable, but it surprised us. Almost black, it had some of the sweet notes of a porter. Matched well with the bbq sauce and an aged Gouda that followed.

Anchor's "Our Special Ale" is very different from year to year, so I'm going to have to dredge up some information on 1991's recipe. We're just thankful that it wasn't the awful pine-flavored one that they produced one year in the nineties!

(Hmmm - just checked. I have a 1992 and two bottles of the 1997 left. Wonder how they've held up???)
Oh, I actually *loved* the pine one (can remember which year that was). I had several bottles that I aged and drank the last one last year. It had lost most of the pine flavor but was still delicious. I think I still have one ‘99 and a few 2004s in the cellar. Stopped hoarding for awhile but now have a six pack or so of the past couple years’ offerings.

Poker Night!

I am still hoping to make the trip too, but I have some potential complications that may force cancellation. I should know more by Wednesday.
Picking up my latest treehouse haul today.

If you've never had Fidens or Root + Branch those should absolutely be on your very short list as well

Different beers for different occasions. It's Bottle Logic Brewing's Holiday Hopscotch while at Disneyland California Adventure. We're here for the kids, I swear.

Necessary Illusions in post 4775 above is a Magnanimous collaboration with Fidens - it is one of my top rated Magnanimous beers

I've been hurting up Fidens for a few years now from when they were just in a small industrial building in Colonie NY.

In the past few months they opened up an incredible brewery / restaurant in downtown Albany which always has a great draft selection including 5 or 6 beers from other breweries.

The food is elevated pub fare but if you don't like that there's an INCREDIBLE ramen spot two doors down. Highly recommended

I love what Bottle Logic makes. I don't think I've had one from them that's missed. I'm happy they distribute some here in Arizona and I don't have to make a pilgrimage to get it.

I was at a Lee's liquor when I was in Vegas for work. I was surprised to see a few BL beers in their cooler.

Treehouse Charlton - on day three out here. It’s a wonderful place during holiday season. They enclose the big Ramada, add a Winter Lodge bar. It’s nice. Only problem is the limit you to three drinks. Oh well Haul includes 74 different beers plus what we had on tap. Wifey likes it. 5 ***** review
