Tourney To use or not to use, a dealer button (1 Viewer)

Dealer button is a must have. A game without it, to me, is barely playable.

And personal opinion only, not intended to ruffle any feathers: Dealer button is a larger, white, low-friction plastic circle with "DEALER" printed/etched on both sides, with an allowance for a possible logo. Anything else is only halfway there.

We don't run into that issue because pretty much everybody at our table knows when you're next to deal, it can wait until after your deal.

After the hand i collect the cards, put the DB on top, and pass it to the player left to me.
As simple as that.

Sorry to derail, but not shuffle ahead/behind debating here, it's seemingly no shuffle for the new dealer. Just found it curious is all.

Quite often I play short-handed with my friends. If there are 5 players or less, and if all of them are decently experienced and actively playing (we are there to play, not to shoot the shit or watch sports or whatever), then usually we won't use a button. If any of those 3 conditions are not met, button is required.

We use a dealer button, although some do not move it as required. I remind them that the dealer button is very useful when self dealing, as the button can be used as a card capper to prevent discards from spoiling the dealers hole cards.

Self dealt home games don‘t really need a dealer button, if all players follow the game.
The guy to your left deal the next hand.

But i found out a DB matching the set is quite cool! It‘s a helper not an essential piece like cards & chips.
I voted yes, but the game could continue without a DB.
The guy with the most cards is the dealer.

We play tournaments and only use a dealer button when we get down to 3-4 players. Most of us have been playing together for 20 years and we only use one deck per table. I could see it being useful when using 2 decks.

This thread is fascinating. Truly. First of all the drama is funny. Second I really never would have imagined that people don’t like using a dealer chip. I think it’s just a no brainer QoL thing at the table.

Third. You’re all wrong. Dealer, BB and SB button gang rise up.

In all seriousness it’s great having all three. Blind buttons can sit on top of blinds and you rarely forget to move the buttons when 4 people (3 buttons and next in line) are responsible versus 2 (current dealer and next dealer).

You had me in the beginning there. DB is a must, but blind buttons? If you need blind buttons then we really need to convert this thread to a discussion about stupid players.

Defintely don’t need them. I think their main use is helping everyone remember to move the damn things in the first place since there’s more for people to see and remember. Especially when members of your table smoke and drink lol.

I've never played a game, casino or home, that uses those blind buttons in that way. Only time I've seen blind buttons used were in casino cash games where people missed posting blinds, dealer would place the buttons as a reminder to gather the missed blinds on the players return.

We used the blind buttons for exactly one game and everyone realized they were stupid. I still have them in a box somewhere.

is it "NEEDED" .. nope, not in a self-dealt game. Follow the stub.
Will I ever have a game without one .. nope. Some people are adamant that it move; some could care less. Everyone always knows where the action is, and if they hesitate more than 8 nano-seconds in my game, the whole table is starring at them with "it's on you" comments.

I have a ton of buttons, and love them, so I will always have them on the table.

I will add, when playing circus games in a self-dealt game, it is nice to have some sort of "button" or indicator on when the game changes. Sometimes that can get a tad confusing.

I tried using them, then found that a person that doesn’t know when their turn to pay the blinds is coming up won’t be paying attention to blind buttons either. I still had to verbally remind certain players to post blinds all night. Eventually I stopped bothering and wouldn’t deal until the players corrected themselves since they clearly weren’t learning.

Better just to train people correctly I guess.
