Priced-out of this hobby? (1 Viewer)

But there's chips at all prices, the card molds are fantastic!

Priced out of what you or I may want? For sure. Even "mediocre" sets can now hit for 5 figures.

Out of all my FRORs, only the cheapest remain. With prices rising, the others have been sold or split (or kept out of spite). That being said, I couldn't afford those again at today's prices.

Jim's chiproom sales are pretty solid as well.

So while yes, top tier sets are now an extravagant luxury, mediocre sets are now many house payments, there is still some room to maneuver. For all the collectors, it's been a huge boon. For those who tend to move chips and not keep a large inventory, well, we missed the boat.

Edit - My shelf is 100% price conscientious. There's the paris set at cost, cards mold set, IG Chiproom set, and hot stamp set. Even for those, the IG set isnt complete due to pricing and HS set $5s are going to take some saving up to force people to sell.

Guess I have been a bit close-minded to card molds
you don't have to buy a total PoS or something, but nice ceramics, hybrids, or TCR chip sets are definitely achievable for more budget conscious buyers.

I for one think that ceramics set with the super mario world theme is some of the best chips I've ever seen regardless of medium.

What chips are you going for?
I’m part of the sharp leaded-Paulson Bowling Team.. but what used to be painful purchase prices are now basically offensive low ball bids.. I put my best effort in but I just can’t keep up anymore..

Card molds are great. Personally I’d rather have the ceramics sold by BROpoker for a few reasons. But they’re more expensive (for good reasons.)
Anyway, there’s nothing really new about card molds (except for the mold itself, which I find uninteresting) except the price point. They’re just decent ceramics. But because of a handful of reasons, people have gone nuts for them. It’s a pretty interesting fad. But if I were looking for a foothold into the hobby, I don’t know if that’s where I’d start.

Cards molds are gonna be my bread and butter for a bit after this project run. I need cheap pretty things.

I've been challenging myself with "budget" CPC customs and I have enjoyed it more than anything else. Overall I've become much more selective on my chip purchases, so I'm still spending the money but making sure it's going towards chips that aren't just a flavor of the month purchase.

Can’t argue with that.
If I’m buying card molds, I assume I’m getting the product so cheaply because it’s coming from a country with no care of human rights and no respect for intellectual property. Now I try not to be a hypocrite - I realize the same might be said for most of the things I buy at Walmart. But I think it’s worth reminding ourselves every now and then exactly how we’re saving money.

Two words: credit cards :cool. Nothing bad happens if you don’t pay off your credit cards right…? Right?

Ok.

I'd rather not pay off the seven distributors with walmart along with the poor labor.

But I don't really say either or on the subject. I hate what craps become but don't got any answers.

But I learned how to Hot Stamp?

There is no shame in owning China Clay chips if that’s what you can afford. If you can’t at least get to that level or the card mold level then you are indeed in the wrong forum. In the last week I’ve seen Paulson chips on this very site for $1 a chip. Thats as good as that is ever going to get again. If you put alerts on the classifieds you will immediately know when something goes up but be ready to pull the trigger. It’s a dog eat dog world bud, but you can do it. Lots of guys and girls have made great finds on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist and once in a while on eBay. If you want it try harder.
