hello wise members!

So looking into a tournament set breakdown for 54 players. I always thought T100 was a no brainer but now I see some people praising T500.

Currently we host a rebuy heavy tournament, avg 2-3 rebuys per player plus addon. (You can buy in double)

And then we host longer freezeouts or second chances with a bigger starting stack.

We are looking into resigning the structure and maybe getting a new chip set in the progress. Should we continue to use T100 or T500?

Some things to keep mind
- we want to handle this with 2000 chips
- Omaha is sometimes played so pot limit usability is a factor
- BBA is used in all tournaments today
- The option to host a high roller event with higher denomination is a big plus (fewer tables ofcourse)

All feedback welcome and new options as well. Both on breakdowns, structure and starting stacks.

T25 is out of the question for personal reasons

I think T500 is the best bet here. Most of the chips copy over from a T500 to a T1K high roller, and you have the option to change the breakdown slightly to make it fairly easy. The following could get you starting stacks of 6/12/7/6 for T500 (200K) or 10/8/6/2 for a T1K base high roller (400K), with enough T25Ks to color up the T1Ks and T5Ks, enough T100Ks to color up the T5Ks (if they are all used up in a high roller, use T500Ks), and T500Ks to color up the T25Ks:

324x T500s
648x T1Ks
432x T5Ks
356x T25Ks
130x T100K
18x T500K

For a Tina order, this means you should go:
325x T500
650x T1K
450x T5K
375x T25K
150x T100K
50x T500K

This will give you 54 starting stacks of T500 or T1K, and enough for 46 rebuys total. 2,000 chips is really difficult to work with for 54 players, so unless you're willing to increase that count, this may be the best you can do (and maybe only allow one rebuy per person, increasing the buy-in potentially if you want similar prize pools).

T100*10
T500*6
T1000*6
T5000*2

Buy 600-400-400-400-200*T25000 = 2000 chips

That's T20,000 starting stacks for 60 players with plenty of extra 5ks and 25ks for rebuys and color ups. You can have more chips, worth more, for a high roller event with this breakdown as well.

I think the full 54 players is the extreme case but if we extend the chip set to 2500 or 3000chips it might be worth it and give us the opportunity to expand later.

To be honest I love the ideas of big stacks of 1k chips but I’m still afraid of ditching the T100 as I have used that structure for years. But T500 looks more efficient and bigger stacks throughout the tournament as you don’t chip up 1/3 of the set in the first levels

What was some of the thought?
  • Less small chips you can have 6 or 8x500 without problems.
  • More high denomination chips get into play
  • Less chips to chip up
  • I liked the structures I found regarding flow
  • I polled few regular tournament players in my area and only one of them had a downside and that was that he regularly bets 8400 or 7100. This was mentioned by other players as a plus  :ROFLMAO:
  • I had the design ready and my t100 also worked as t500.000 so it was destiny.

Playing tournament where people have bigger stacks of 1k and 5k is to my liking. It looks better and as I could allocate a bigger portion of the set to that denominations by having fewer T500

In max size tournament and that is rare I would only use 6x500 for a starting stack of 150k, bank of 312 rebuys allow me to have rebuys or addons or even multi day entry if wanted

Awesome! Makes a lot of sense. I am awaiting a small "high roller" T500 CPC set but they're stamps I haven't done yet so I have just been confirming the intention to do 500 base

I was quite surprised when I spoke to regular tournament players about designing a new set with a change of format and they liked it. Tournament players can be hard to please but they agreed that eliminating fewer chips and being able to do it sooner in the structure is a big plus.

I will ofcourse get crucified by the same players when they see a black 5.000 chip but I will survive

STOP RIGHT THERE!
Some players really hate having mountains of 100 that they can get rid of because the tournament director wants to have the level 1300/2600
When playing BB ante you need to have 4x100 just to post in some levels.

200/400 and you need 8x100 to post BB+ante

(Yes I know a tournament director that loves have detailed levels and starting stacks with 15x100
