7/8 vs 1 Inch (1 Viewer)

Hey guys, I am having trouble deciding between 7/8th and 1 inch inlay size. I am seeking advice to help me make a decision. The mold will be small crown and a Mapes tribute set. Inlay credit is all @timinater ’s. Not a huge rush since scrown is 9 months plus out but I would like to put order in before the end of the year to avoid price increase. My pro to the larger inlay is it will be easier to see/read. My pro to the smaller inlay is more of the actual chip will be visible. Any help is welcome!

1” without question.

When ordering a CPC set I wanted S-Crown all along but I also knew I wanted shaped inlays (all are 7/8”). After looking at lots of chips I just couldn’t do 7/8 on S-Crown. Very very few examples anyway to see out there.

In general, go bigger unless it will start messing with the mold boundary. Nobody has ever really said, "I wish my custom inlay was smaller."

Damn. I never even realized these were 7/8. Obviously these are fantastic. And also very representative of what Buge could expect because he is doing the white outer inlay ring layer.

Those Slims are awesome and I did already look at them before posting this thread. Def a tough choice!

If you got the space, use it. Only reason to ever go smaller is if it works with the theme. If it works either way, go big.

Count me in the 1" camp, but seeing @wonderpuddle 's set I'm torn for a suggestion for your set. His black inlay with white ring works so well at 7/8" it's almost a coin toss.

That said, there are enough finer details in the "hotel" and in the cowboy's chaps, I'd want to lean to 1" to help preserve those details.


Maybe test print the inlay at the respective sizes and see if you are OK with the details at 7/8".

Funny, I used this very chip to decide which way to go one my set. I think Mapes were 15/16 in., right between the two CPC inlay sizes.

I find the mock up 7/8 look nicer than 1 for me.

It more of a personnel choice, go with the one that you prefer.

It looks like the inlay on the $1 is an inch to me but that’s just eyeing it from the picture. Is it possible 2 different inlay sizes were used for the $1 and $5?

IIRC classic, old school TRKs all have a 1” inlay so that’s what I wanted/went with
