About 18 months into the Hobby... 45k plus in chips... do we have a problem? (3 Viewers)

Ben/brie...you indeed have a problem...a serious problem. Luckily I am here to help you. I'd luv to buy that huge set of sweet Paulson g
de Ismuth chips from you. I'll be really happy and you both will be on the path to recovery.

That one in particular I don't think will ever see a for sale sign lol

I just looked through this entire thread. Amazing stuff you’ve collected! You’ve gotta have the biggest CDI set in the world? If not I’d be surprised! I love the PCA set too, I can see why that’s one of your favorites. If you ever run a big CDI tournament with all the chips, I’m in!!

All of my debt is because of you brother!! Lmao I will never forget that first little 200 chip set you sold me! I couldn't believe it!

I said there is now way I am ever building something big... these damn chips can run over $3 each!! But waking up early that morning and finding your listing i jumped at the opportunity! Then when I got them I literally remeber saying to Brie "oh no!" She said what?? I replied I really really like these! Lol and now I own 5,200 original chips with lots of other custom pieces.

(200) more $1s and (200) more $5s and I never have to look for another CDI chip again!! Lol

Thanks for your help!! Wish I had those first 200 marked somehow like Grand Opening... now they are mixed into the sea of CDIs!

Ben

Just a casual addition of 5,000 chips after your initial buy of 200 chips. I love it! I’m glad I’m a part of history for your first buy. Mention me in the documentary.

Wasn't my first buy, I already had the sickness. But definitely my first CDI buy other than I found 26 blue $1 CDIs on Macari back in the beginning. Again many thanks I love the CDI collection, even if they are disliked by many... we can't all love the same things. Well we can but we can't all own them! Lol

Well only worked a few hours today, not much to do with covid/ January/ no poker! I figured why not get the Ace's chips out and combine the 2 cases into 1. Seems dumb to have most of my cases holding 2,100 chips now and this one separated into 2 over one rack of chips! We could use the money so sell off a rack and consolidate a bit!!

Also I have never had all of these on the table at the same time for a family photo!

20210123_145950.jpg

So there is the 2,100 chip set! I had 5 racks of $2s and I do not need them. Also you can see $.25 and $.50 fracs. No I do not intend to play them at the same time. We play both $.25/$.50 and $.50/$1 and I am not a fan of using double fracs in the $.50 game.

Would love to some day finish the second rack of RHC Paragon quarters. Truly one of my favorite Hot stamp fracs, and also we could truly cover 2 full tables of cash... 80 per table would be a bit light, but also we almost never see 2 complete table with 10 at each so I think we are good! Aldo 1 table could play $.50/$.50 or $.50/$1so I think this one is up for the task! @ChaosRock your rack of $25s has a friend now! Lol thank you for your help putting this one together!

Too far to go back and check if I already discussed this, but @Eriks rather than crapping in someone else's thread, I will do it in my own! Lol

So the original CDI plaques are very rare, expensive and ever finding a playable quantity for this set would be absolutely impossible. So I got together with @JeepologyOffroad and wanted to come up with something that still covered the basis of a plaque, but not take up as much space on the table. I really like how the BCC Mardi Gras had an octagon 43mm option for the 5k and decided I would like to clone it for the CDIs

Obviously the original Plaques look like this
20210225_081045.jpg

I wanted to stay as close as I could to the original design, just smaller. So we came up with these
20200923_161335.jpg

20200923_161421.jpg

Br Pro will not atempt edge spot matching but I still wanted something other than a solid rolling edge so we offset the edge spots to give them a splash of flavor. I think John knocked this one out of the park! We played them at a meet up in Ohio and we got a lot of compliments. Didn't get as many of the high denoms in play as we hoped for due to Covidbut it is ready for the next time!

You can see some of the 5ks here in @toynoob stack. Large enough and oddly shaped so that you know they are a higher value. But not taking up a bunch of table space. Not going to be everyone's favorite idea but they work for our needs!

Right, forgot you had those. Very cool, I Love em!

With Brie's recent large singles score, we finally got them all cleaned and oiled. This is just the casino used $1s
20210321_142704.jpg

THC inlaid/ THC Hot Stamps/ RHC standard inlay/ RHC oversized inlay/ house Molds/ premium plastics, ASMs and BCCs.

20210321_151527.jpg

Not as impressive but the AC house molds are not mixed in.
20210321_151117.jpg

The left case here are our Casino sample sets broke out into RHC/THC/ some plastics in the back of row 5, the rest are larger sub collections like ArtichokeJoe's, Terribles (multi locations) IOC multiple locations... the right case is now the overflow $5s and up/ right side of that case is fantasy samples that are not in or "best samples" case that we usually bring to meet ups.

Thought it would be cool to update

Well yesterday was the Big Day... my journey for a rack of Pick Hobson's Fracs finally was completed.
20210418_111320.jpg

Again huge thanks to all that helped me on this journey... there are a few Bike tires on the left side I would like to replace eventually, but also this rack is 105 chops so technically still have a good rack, with a couple low quality fillers
20210418_111503.jpg

It has been over a year since my last family photo of this set, saddly woth covid they have yet to be felted... pretty much complete other than made a couple more racks of $5s at some point.

20210418_111048.jpg

I'm not even sure that I was ready for this splash pot shot! No filter ladies and gents! Just morning sun light.
20210418_113306.jpg

Funny at our first meet up I asked Brain @Klobberer what was so awesome about TRKs, he said "it is not about the feel of TRKs, it is the amazing colors!" The first time I picked up a barrel of broke in Leaded TRKs... I said WTF, Brian lied to me, this is the best feeling chip ever! But I guess in the long run we are both right buddy, they are just all around amazing!!

And in the end they were packed back up and ready for their inaugural game... when ever that happens
20210418_115239.jpg

Really happy seeing this chipping journey come to and end (so is my wallet! Lol) absolutely love the chips though!!

Thanks for lookin!

So many sets we need to get in play at some point! I’m happy you were able to get this one finished up. You deserve it!

I remember a couple years ago sitting and asking @Chippy McChiperson when he brought his TRKs for a game, I was memorized, stunned, baffled even on how the hell did you manage to build a playable set of TRKs... he told me "you have to want it bad enough and hunt them down rack by rack, it can be done!" While I knew Mapes would never happen and we already have a set in the group I thought ok Pick Hobson's seem to be in the right price range for my budget... looking at those chips I knew one day some how I could build a set of just awesome old school scrown leaded TRKs. I think I grossly incorrectly estimated the $$ it would take, but still I managed to make it work. Not minty, not super rare but still ole average Joe Ben managed to put something together! Lol

DANG your rack of 100s is CRISP. Honestly I think once I clean mine they probably look almost that good
I could tell the difference between nearly brand new and used thought the white gets dirty easy and they were
slightly dinged. Love everything about the Pick Hobson but the 25s really but after getting two racks at once and
seeing them together I like them alot more. I was lucky to find a full rack of TRK quarters, honestly IDK if there are
many casino TRK quarters here in a rack so I feel pretty damn lucky to have those even if the 50c chips elude me.
Probably wont make it to Vegas this year but if you take a trip to North Dakota Ill probably be at the Minot game
at least once :p

OH yah and I TOTALLY agree!! 21 chip barrels are the way to go :)

Those quarter pie White Hundos are amazing and yes absolutely a pain to get back to white. The bigger issue is the bleeding red, you have to be careful when washing them because the red wants to turn the white clay pink! Also very important is when storing try to spin the reds so they line up and you are not storing red against the white or again you will get some color transfer and start all over.

Looking at the splash pot I absolutely agree, the $25 is ok... more of a filler chip than anything else. I think it is carried well by the other bright colors in the set, but a lime green tri moon would have really faired well here. Even something like the NL CB $100 would have made a great $25, but I don't think we can change what they decided 40 years ago now! Lol
20201212_103841.jpg

(My dream tourney line up that I gave up on) but that green $100 would have made a great PH $25 I think.

Never let someone tell you it is impossible to blow 5 plus grand on something absolutely ridiculous like a quarter limit set!
20210607_175904.jpg

@Beakertwang what have you turned me into??? But she's getting there!! Lol

The goal is 2,100 quarters... why? Because that is what fits in an Apache 4800 case! Lmao

Would love at least 2 racks of seven different colors, probably not happening but I will not give up! One of these years we will have a $.75/$1.50 limit set!

Has to be one of the most ridiculous things ever built in this hobby! Lmao I love it!! Man a light blue or Purple would just make this next level!

Oh Crystal Palace... where are you Hiding??

The purples we own but I love my mixed set and can't have chips pulling double duty
20210517_232834.jpg

20200516_161520.jpg

Patience is king here I guess... no way I can steal the purples!

@Mooneypenny those awesome pinks reporting for duty!! Thanks again for the help!!

Don't tag @HaRDHouSeiNC not sure he is ready for this post!! Lol seriously Eric thank you for your assistance with this as well!

So many have helped Brie and I turn this ridiculous dream into an actual possibility! One day 2,100 is going to happen... even if one at a time!! Lmao

@Ben8257 #8 is amazing. As someone new to this hobby who has been racing through content on here trying to find inspiration for sets I have to say this is the first set that has like instantly grabbed my heart and made me say "I want that." I know that might sound silly, I of course also want a big CPC custom set and I admire tons of the stuff on here, but for some reason the mixed HS quarters are just amazing. Everything else is great too. Amazing stuff!

No idea why I didn't get a notification on this, so I apologize for not responding! We love the quarters as well... it was kind of meant as a joke at first, I absolutely love fracs man, but they cost so much money it was hardto justify them just sitting here. So the idea of a $.25/$.50 limit set jus th sounded cool... later I found out that @Beakertwang meant $.75/$1.50... a 3/6 chip game does sound awesome but definitely means we needed more quarters for that (one rack is not going to be enough each for a 3/6 limit set) so my initial plans of single racks of lots of colors transformed into an atempt at 2 racks of each color. I am in no rush on this one. It's fun to have "ongoing projects" to keep your mind busy so you don't start thinking of a new set!

We have a couple more racks to clean and I will have to update the set pics! I think we are close to 2k now, maybe still a bit short. Unfortunately like the blue Diamond Jo's we haven't found a single chip in almost a year. The likelyhood of ever getting to two racks is very slim! But still fun to try!!
