My Akumal Beach & Casino chips arrived today.

>>> Original design thread can be found here

Big thanks to Justin (for the order) and Cratty for the assist on finalizing the artwork.

Here are some quick pics - I haven't cleaned these chips, do I even need to clean and oil these? ...I just popped these on the kitchen breakfast bar. Will set up a better shoot once I have all of my wedding photo jobs out the door.

Yes. I shot these with my 58mm f/1.4. Kinda glowy and shallow. I was feeling to lazy to dig a different lens out of my bag...

>>> Just a quick note - if you haven't done it yet, please shoot Jim @TheChipRoom a message for brand spanking new non-cancelled casino dice. Holy ballzzzzz. They dice are phenomenal. We are officially going to be the gaming enablers during the family holiday gatherings.

*****Back to the chips*****

If I could describe these chips/this set in one word, it would be...

Holyshitthesechipsarefuckingawesome!

I loved this set as I was designing them, the design really came together quickly and beautifully. But after I placed the order, I was sitting on pins and needles about the final production/product. Would they turn out as I had intended? The big concerns were...

Chip color printing - would the color come close to the original design colors? Or would they be too dark, to light, or just "off"...? I was really worried about my $5 "sun chip". Would the 'yellow on yellow' be enough of a difference to show up. Would the yellow be too dark? Would it be too light? Ugh! That drove me nuts.

Label readability - The original design/mock up on the Paulson Chip Design Tool was 28mm label. Tina's labels are 24mm - so you lose a good bit of size with shrinkage. And I wasn't entirely sure of the printing process for the insert labels, so worried the small type/details would break up with a low linescreen - if it even used a linescreen.

Did I make the radial color fade on the label too dark or too light?

The colors are freaking fantastic. In the photos, I just popped the photos on the counter with the lights off. In hand, these chips are BEAUTIFUL. The $20 green chip POPS a lot more in person than it does in these photos. Same with the $500 purple chip.

The edge spots, whether stacked or in the carrying case, look outstanding.

The tiny type on the bottom of the label is SUPER tiny - but it's actually readable...unless you have bad eyesight.

I do wish I had opened up the letter spacing in "Beach & Casino" a bit more. It's readable, but it opening up that letter spacing would have helped even more.

The "waves" illustration came out far better than I had hoped, with the printing.

The overall feel of these chips just ooze the Caribbean and the Riviera Maya/Yucatan.

The Greek Mold is 100% ON POINT!

Wish Tina offered 39mm chips with 28mm label insert/inlay.

I am just "Happy as all get-out" over these chips.

...Still waiting on my dealer button.

**** Sample sets of all 6 chips will be available - I'm selling 25 sets for $10 each, shipped in a bubble wrap envelope *****

Cool design. From the pictures the 1 and 20 look a little close in color -- do you see any risk that they might get accidentally mixed up on the table?

That's a good question. The colors are more different in reality than in the photo. When I look at them in a very dark shadow area on my desk, the $1 blue chip is a bit lighter than the green $20 chip, and the spots also differentiate the two denoms. If I had the same spot pattern, that would certainly make it more difficult in very crappy lighting. But I chose the spot patterns and colors to help define those two chips.

We have much better lighting where we play in our basement activity space than I do in this dark area on my desk. This won't be a problem.

Good to hear!
