I bought a handful of casino chips on eBay and 3 chipcos were included. Honestly, I kind of assumed I'd toss them. But I cleaned them with the other chips, and as they were drying, i started playing with them, and all of a sudden I found myself thinking, "well I definitely need more of these." And then I managed to convince myself to stop being crazy. But this morning, I found myself searching for chipcos on eBay.

Chipcos were my first real (non crap) poker chips. I pull them occasionally, but Paulsons and TRKs have turned me intspoiled chip nerd. :ROFLMAO:

My wife's favorites are the ceramic American Beauties, made by Nevada Jacks I believe.

You'll enjoy the Chipcos. Especially for the price compared to Paulsons today.

I guess what I like about the chipcos is the textured finish. I have sample sets I bought a while ago of Nile club and veneratis, and the chipcos feel SO much better to me.
I'm afraid the Boardwalk chips are just going to feel like plastic chips. They look great, no doubt.

The assets were purchased, but it was reported that PGI sold that equipment a while ago. It was around the time they stopped offering Royal Yak chips.

The nicest chipcos that are commonly available are the royal yaks with the hooters chips a close second. I own both of course so maybe I am biased.

So help me out, fellas. Do all chipcos have a finish like this (with these lines that are like cross hatching?)
Because I've felt some ceramics that have a smooth finish and I've felt some that have a subtle pebbly finish, but this is the one I like.

I believe at least some of the folks at Game On (GOCC) are ex-Chipco employees.

No. Chipco did a linen finish and a textured finish, I'm guessing that one is textured

That's good information. Thanks.
Now if you'll be so kind as to tell me where I can find 600 of them, cheap?

I don't if many sets that actually used the textured finish. More knowledgeable members may confirm, but I think they stopped using them sometime ago.

All of the samples I have that I've checked so far from Chipco, GOCC, PGI, and Sunfly have a linen finish, but the Chipco / GOCC chips are grippier than others. I'll continue looking to see if I have any samples like the one pictured.

Also, good chips (of any kind) don't come cheap. The high-end chip market is not friendly for budgets.

Yeah I was joking about the cheap part. These chips feel great, so I don't expect they'll be cheap.
But common or not, I want to find some, in tournament denominations.

One option is the Condado Plaza tournament set at the Chip Vault.

While they are listed as "Chipco", the 5000 chip has the GameOn mark on it (just between the first A and Z in Plaza), so I believe these are actually GOCC chips. Look like the linen finish on the chips, but I personally like that finish. My Yak set has a similar finish, and they feel great. And the price / chip is pretty darn good.

I looked at those. But I think they have that bubbly- pebbly looking finish. It doesn't look like the finish I'm looking for, but the picture is definitely not detailed enough to tell for sure.
But thanks, I'm all for suggestions.

In that case, I agree with BGinGA...get samples from the different manufacturers and make your decision based on what you receive. Some manufacturers may have different blank styles (PGI may), so that would be something I would ask them.

I appreciate the advice about customs and samples, but I'm not looking for chips. I just happened to be playing with some that felt great and decided I needed more of them. Which i'd love to make happen. But I don't think I want to go shopping around for the next best thing.

I'm not a ceramic snob like some others here, but I've never particularly liked Chipco chips -- regardless whether they were customs or made for casinos. There are several ceramic options available today that far surpass anything Chipco ever produced, imo.

I get your point.
And like I said, I only sampled two different kinds of ceramics when I was shopping around, so there's plenty I haven't seen.
Much safer on the wallet that way, though.

That's dissapointing. Not sure why they would list them as Chipcos if they aren't. If they were chipcos I was going to search for a few others to split this set with.... I like the basic look of these...

It's possible my eyes are deceiving me, but I don't think so. GOCC and Chipco chips are very similar in look and feel, based on the samples I have. Based on this post on CT, it was formed by former Chipco employees. I would consider the difference between Chipco and GOCC the same as between Chevy and Pontiac, or Ford and Mercury.

I don't think Chipco ever produced chips without their infamous outer white circle, and I seriously doubt these are the only exception. I don't see any markings on the chips (on either the CV or Chipboard pics), but I think it's pretty safe to say that they aren't Chipcos.

EDIT: okay, looked harder, and the mark is definitely there on all tourney chips. GOCC it is.
