Apache 3800 Faux Pelican Case (Harbor Freight) - Now with photos! (3 Viewers)

@chubbyone, I was just at Harbor Freight checking these out. I’m guessing that I could fit 7 racks of chips plus cards and a dealer button on top. Does that seem right?
Grabbed one today. $36 and change out the door with the 20% off coupon. I’m planning on completing my Majestic set with another rack, and there’s plenty of room for that.

Just bought one of these with the 20% off coupon. Long story short I have one layer of the thicker and thinner pick and pluck inserts. The thinner pick and pluck insert is twice as thick than the base layer the case comes with so (see top picture) I'm going to try and use it for the base layer where the chips will sit. I tried this out (see bottom picture) by and put two sets of stacked racks and chips in the case loose. After closing the lid and shaking the case frantically in all different positions everything stayed in place perfectly

I'm going to have to do some cutting, fitting, and glueing to merge all three of the pieces (thicker pick and pluck, thinner pick and pluck, and original base) together so it looks seamless but I don't think it should be too bad. So glad I saw the plasti-dip on this site since I'll have to use it for the thinner pick and pluck layer which will be supporting the weight of the chips and racks. I'll throw up some pictures once it's done likely in a few weeks. Wish me luck!

Does HF ever have one similar to the Sam’s 20”?
Not sure what the difference in size is but they do have a larger size (Apache 4800) on their website. There's also a coupon which saves you $10 ($44.99 instead of $54.99).

Thanks for the notice on Apache 4800. I’ll have to make my way down to HF.
Well it took long enough, but I finally had some time to get mine set up. Holds 800 chips in racks, 5 Matsui plaques, a setup and a couple dealer buttons. The cutout for cards will hold either an old school Kem case or a regular side by side setup.
Now just need somewhere to take them!

I picked up the 4800 today at harbor Freight. 54.99 - 20% off coupon=43.99+ tax. I got this one instead of the 3800 because I needed the extra space for my 900 piece 43mm Mountain Top Casino hybrids. 3 layers of foam, 2 pick-n-pluck and 1 thinner non-pick-n-pluck base layer. (4 if you count the egg carton looking foam on lid. Pretty easy to configure. I didn’t really have enough space for a set-up cut out, but that’s ok. I need to next glue the 3 pieces of foam then plastidip it. Very happy with this purchase.
Will this case hold 5x2 racks for 1,000 chips?

That is exactly how I configured mine. You can’t tell from the picture, but there are 4 other racks below the 4 racks on the right. The one rack on the left sits on the bottom layer and I just cover the top layer with foam since I only have 900 chips.
It will fit 2 levels of 5 racks side by side if that’s what you’re asking.

The 43mm racks are bigger and do not fit in bird cages. I don’t know of any bird cages that can accommodate the 43mm chip racks. This is my only set of the over-sized chips and wanted something to transport them in. I wasn’t too impressed with those faux alllgator cases from amazon for $25.

There still is good reason to use a Pelican/knockoff at home over a birdcage - birdcages can't be locked. (One could probably build a contraption for that, but that'll kill the good looks)

You can do that, but the cover still has enough leeway that you can lift it up just high enough to steal chips from the bottom racks. Hence the need for a contraption which would reduce said leeway.

Still a work in progress but I used some pick and pluck I had from a previous job as a test fit. I wish I had more as it's high quality, the only issue is the squares you pluck are very large. Once I get it the way I want it I'll use the habor freight foam. I'd really like to fit 8 racks but I might just do 6. Very impressed with the case for the price.

Finally got a chance to get a picture of my Apache 4800 setup. Holds 1000 chips two dealer buttons and one copag setup with room to add another two deck setup. I only have 850 chips so I threw a few barrels of samples in there for now to fill up some empty space and give my friends a chance to handle some different chips. This case is awesome though highly recommend it for the price!

I really like the way you set this up. I might choose this config. The way I have mine now makes it hard to get any racks out.
