I can't believe this is even a debate.

Has the heat factor been discussed already? Where do panini's fall on the sandwich spectrum?

A panini is actually the Italian name for sandwich..
While a sandwich in general represents anything between the two breads, panini uses a specific Italian bread like Focaccia or Ciabatta.
Focaccia is typically a flat bread while Ciabatta is baked as loaf bread

Hot Dog is not a sandwich

I learned something today.

For the record: hot dogs are not sandwiches.

BZZZT!

This only proves that a hot dog is not a panini. On that we're in agreement.

Wow, a lot of debate about hot dogs being a sandwich...

I'll chime in with sure it's sandwich.
- if you want to really nit pick, I suppose you could require that the sides be distinct items (i.e. not connected). You could then qualify by tearing the bun in half.

A "Sandwich" is just: something | something else | something

A "radical" example would be an Oreo sandwich cookie.
cookie | filling | cookie

and yes it's says sandwich on the package

Another example and my favorite version

hottie | me | hottie

Carry On. :cool

So you're a structure neutral, ingredient rebel...

Per the posted chart yes, but I would argue that ice cream is a classic and well accepted sandwich filling. Therefore, I would argue about the legitimacy of that chart in the first place.

Wow. The only thing ever worth mentioning about Subway (aside from it's evidence that a hot do is a sandwich) was the delicious bread. And now I know why.
Subway ? Delicious bread ? Stop it. Bova’s bakery in the north end has delicious bread

I see a future heated debate thread on the advantages of the wider side-by-side wiener double bun vs those of the taller stacked wiener double bun.

Not to mention the wider/taller side-by-side stacked bun that can accomodate four wieners. Win-win.
