Barrington poker table thread (10 Viewers)

Time and tools are a big factor. Also, the cost can add up quick, even if you're buying basic materials.

I'm working on my first custom build now and it's coming in right around $475 in total materials cost. Granted, that is with an upgraded table layout and legs, but even with basic legs and speed cloth, the total is more than you might think.

Here's my recent build spreadsheet modified with suited speed cloth and basic folding table legs to keep the cost down...

And that still requires one to have a jigsaw, power drill, and driver. You'll also need a host of other things, like a staple gun, utility knife, forstner bits, sawhorses, wood screws, extra jigsaw blades, etc. An air compressor and pneumatic stapler are nice bonuses as well. And let's not forget the weekend or so (and workshop space) that you'll need to build the thing. For some one new to woodworking and/or power tools, the costs, space, and time commitment can be substantial.

For a first time table build you could easily exceed $400, even if you already have most of the tools. The Barrington table, even with upgrades, is still well under $200, which is an incredibly attractive option as a pre-built alternative.
This is ridiculously helpful. Should be saved into the Resource section. Well played, sir.

Just wanted to share the handles I wound up attaching to the table. Makes it way easier to move around and still lay flat when set up. It's actually a replacement amplifier handle, but works great with no modification. Drill two holes and you're golden.

I have a price watch on these to pick one up if they get deeply discounted again. I want to replace my octagon with it because I hate having to cap weeknight games at 8, but I am wondering how well this can actually accomodate 10 full grown men?

I had 10 around it once. It was snug, but not undoable. However, no one was particularly large either.

Comfortably, but I recommend using chairs without armrests if you’re gonna have that many players side by side. At my table I have noticed when the table was full the armrests were more of nuisance than a convenience.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for posting. This table seems like a pretty interesting option.

Has anyone tried just cutting a roll out neoprene poker mat (like the PCF one) and just putting that on top? I would be curious how well that would work because I have a mat already.

It would cover the crack in the middle, but I worry about it not fitting perfectly and/or bunching up.

is there still a good place to buy this thing? walmart is back to normal price

It seems to fluctuate every few months. Just keep checking on it, it'll go back down.

Or keep an eye on Craigslist. They do pop up used for the same sales price. But if you're ripping off the cloth, who cares that it's used?

Inquiring from expert builders trying to save money might have cost me money. Using the headliner foam doubled up. Will these creases indentations affect the gaming cloth? Just don’t want them to show.

I just resurfaced mine last night. Don't worry about those imperfections on the foam. Once you start stretching/stapling the speed cloth, you won't see any of that.

Excited to see the end result!

That looks awesome! Is that midnight blue?? I just ordered mine from TPS yesterday. Also how long did it take to receive the cloth after ordering?
Thanks! Yes, it's dark blue. Mine arrived 3-4 days after I ordered it. It did take 2 days before the shipping tracking updated and caught up.

If I was using SSC I wouldn’t worry but I’m using a overrun from the layout company.

Ok cool! Can’t wait to get started with the upgrade. Deeper cup holders coming tomorrow.

I would like to do this as well and was reading up on it. Not sure I have the right tools. And would I need to remove the rail again or just pop out the cup holders and drill down?

If the teeth on your hole saw are sharp enough, you can just remove the cup holders and drill through the SSC and the surface. I did it just fine and that ensures that everything lines up

Got it. And how far down did you drill and which cup holders did you use? Thanks

@Lent53 you will need to cut down the table leg on each for 4 of them to slide past when inserted. I used a dremel with a cutting wheel but you can use a sawzall or preferred method.
