Bread is key in every sandwich. Just try to get a good Cubano anywhere outside of Florida.
Something about that cheesesteak roll. There's good Italian delis all over that make a good Italian combo sub/hoagie, but getting that bread right is hard for other sammiches. Wario's in Columbus was one of the better cheesesteaks I've had though. I think the guys who run it are from Philly and possibly ship their bread in from Philly.
 
My first ever Philly cheesesteak, does that look alright? I already put in the chili sauce they gave me, but I’m assuming I should pass on the ketchup..? :unsure:

One time, they handed me the wrong order at the sub shop. I got home and found out I had steak and cheese subs with mayo and ketchup. Insane. But I was hungry, so oh well. Im ashamed to say it was really good.
 
Yes that is (well, was) indeed a Thai Philly cheesesteak, good quality beef and overall very enjoyable, sadly I have no point of reference to really rate it. I think the chili sauce and ketchup are probably to cater to the local palate and to be fair it was up to me to use them or not. No chili, no life! :LOL: :laugh:
 
Of all the things for a city to be famous for - a steak and cheese sub? Seems like you could make that anywhere. It’s not like they have some special local beef. Or some special local cheese. I’d be willing to bet you can get a steak and cheese sub in any city as good as you’d get in Philadelphia. I think Philadelphia is probably full of shit. Mostly because I went to school with a tool from Philadelphia and he used to grumble loudly and often that you couldn’t get a decent cheesesteak in Boston. I’ve always assumed that this is all crap. Like, how hard is it to make a steak and cheese sub??
But I’m curious who hear your results.

I've been told by some of my Philly guys that Dalessandro/s and Tony Luc's are some of the better sammich's...
but I'm not a philly guy .. so I dunno
 
It sounds like Dalessandro’s is my leadoff heater. Do I do Pats/Geno’s for cleanup or is there better?
