These look like Borgata chips...do they feel platicky?

They don't feel like a cheap plastic chip, but they are known to be more slippery than some care for. I got mine during the GB and I kept them and still love them. I know lots of folks ended up selling their sets, but I have been very happy with mine.

Are these Matsui? Beautiful chips
It has been a while...

Looks like the Matsuis would be skipper, I see no cross hatching.

How do matsui compare to bg

I know some people are so used to clay and many don't like the plastic feel of the bg
At the same time some (me) think bg is the rolls roys of chips (espevially if you started playing in france or europe)

If matsui is a very close option i would really like to know

I emailing Matsui Europe last week I got some of their new sample in mail this morning. I think they are realy nice chips and the new indent stops slipperiness.

so, at what point do we get a group buy for a new set of CPC chips? :p

But much more importantly, if you were to replicate a design from the past as your 'ultimate chip set', which one would it be? what are your top 3?

Le Noir?
Casino de Isthmus?
Pharaoh's?
Top Hat?

Matsui chips are pretty, but actually playing with them sucks. Pass.

What we need is that German-based Stralka chip company to make a reappearance. Today's market prices may be enough to overcome the difficulties they previously encountered.

Awesome Chips. Perfect quality. Unfortunately i missed to buy them....
If someone will sell a set, let me know

CPC are small-batch hand-made chips. A group buy doesn't lead to any discount until the order gets large, and even then, you only save a tiny bit - barely enough to cover the costs of re-shipping.

A good reason to group-buy from CPC (for example) is if several people are adding on to the same chip design, and none of them are individually hitting the minimum order quantity.

Le Paulson Noir is the absolute best design I have ever seen.

I also like the Cigar and snifter chips, very nice design.

Can't think of a third that isn't currently available. oddly enough, only about 10% of what chips I see, I am interested enough to buy

So many of the paulson home chips i havent even seen, but from pics the WTHC looks very nice. Also the 20th century that bginga has a big set of is super nice. Im sure there are many more and better options though

I did like the cigar and snifter chips, but dealing with Sidepotgaming always seemed... skeevy. Sorry for vague, but it's how they dealt with me.

The joys of posting from an iPhone.... It should be "Cigar and Snifter".

To answer this question, I would have to ask myself "if I had an unlimited supply of money, what would I buy? ".
So this is my final list:

1. Le Paulson Noir.
2. Wicked Spades (I know these are made by the Nevada Jack company, but they get their own special spot for being so damn awesome)
3. A random Paulson Top Hat and Cane set like Casino Aztar.
4. ASM/CPC custom sets / ceramic custom sets.
5. Nevada Jack Saloon / Skulls
6. Cigar and Snifter mold chips.
7. Surprisingly, Milanos. These are really good for a China Clay . I would also use Pharaoh China Clay in lieu of them.

So I guess those would be my favorite chip manufacturers.

How reproducible are the quality of the China Clays? Would you say that, for example the Milanos, they are consistently well made, or are they a mixed bag a la BCC chips?

I don't actually own a China Clay set, what I will say is that I have seen a guy with them who said that he may have had to take an X-acto knife and move 1 label out of a set of 300.

Also CC's are breakable with enough force if you intentionally try to snap one in half, you may do it.

What makes China Clay chips decent is the cost... you can get a set of 300 chips for about $100 and they do look above-average in quality.

The one thing I will say about them is they smell and since the inlay is a label, washing them is not a recommended solution, rather you take them out and air them for several hours.

To be fair, the label is better than the labels on home sets like Black Diamond or Eclipse where the damn thing will just peel off after a few years but don't take too many risks.

I honestly do not know (you may want to ask the peeps here) about being able to wash a Paulson chip if it gets grimy over time or why you are able to.

Also as a personal note: I think hot stamping looks very tacky. I prefer the Paulsons with the labels on them.

Not more breakable than Paulson or CPC.

The toughest chips are the cheapest.

Hobbyphiliac tried on purpose to break China Clay chips and managed to do it. he had a much more difficult time with the Nevada Jack chips. It was funny because he put a couple of chips in a blender and the chip blew a hole in the side of the blender.

I imagine one wouldn't try on purpose to break a Paulson chip if for no other reason that the chips are too damn expensive.

Interesting. None of those would even make my top 20 for purchases (maybe the Aztars), if i had an unlimited supply of money.

Including mid-range ceramics and Milanos (possibly the worst china clay ever produced) in the list is laughable. Perhaps you simply haven't been exposed yet to the really good stuff. :)

Would highly appreciate your top 10 list...please? (cash game set, if you don't mind) :D

I've seen about 15-20 kinds of chip since coming here.

Yes, I have a set of Chipco but can't expect myself to always get those quality of chips. in fact, my 25c chips are from Old West and they are of comparable quality to the Wicked Spades.

I have looked at a handful of Paulsons but most of them are hot stamped and not my cup of Oolong.

Ones I have rejected outright:

1. Tiki Kings -- something about these do not strike me. the colors are nice enough but little else seems to appeal to me about it and it seems too cartoonish.

2. Majestic -- this is tough because I think Apache makes great China Clays but this one sucked mostly because the labels weren't consistent. I think I got 9 chips on my samples and 4 had an inconsistent brightness schematic. in other words, part of the word "majestic" was darker than other parts.

I didn't entirely reject the Pharaoh CC but I do have it as a toss up for one reason... price. at 42c a chip plus tax, I can honestly start buying the ceramics because NJ Saloon are 45c a chip at one vendor.

3. All ABS/ Dice Chips -- simply put, I just can't play these.

4. Pretty much anything with a hot stamp it strikes me that most of those come off right away.

5. Venerati chips -- I like these designs except for the GD $1 chip. At $.39 each, these would be great but I can't do this as a cash set without customizing which will cost more.

I originally had Cleveland Horseshoe on this list but in recent months had taken it off. The people I hang around all are lukewarm on the design, but it seems like a good enough chip.

Not only now do I want to see your list but some pr0n of it if there really is that much better stuff out there.
