Best Sports Movies of all Time by Sport (1 Viewer)

My tops:

Baseball: Major League (but For Love of the Game is a close second - the scenes where Costner is in Yankee Stadium and talking to himself are fantastic).
Basketball: Hoosiers (I grew up in a small basketball-crazed town so this resonates with me).
Hockey: Miracle (unless you're from Russia, in which case, Slapshot).
Football: Rudy
I don't need to make a list because @bergs made mine for me. Remember the Titans is a very close second to Rudy, but that damn Rutiger gets me every time, no matter how embellished it is.

Hockey: Miracle (unless you're from Russia, in which case, Slapshot).

Obviously I'm a sucker for the inspiration / comeback / underdog story line. Who wouldn't be? This is sports and those are the best stories IMO.

You should be a fan of the District 12 Ducks then....AKA Mighty Ducks...:)

I mean they actually got a professional team named after them (for a while).

ice hockey : Youngblood

Awesome movie!

I have allegiances to teams in six different leagues, so I love me some sports, but have never really been into movies about them.

I had a good friend that played minor league baseball and he mentioned on more than one occasion that Bull Durham nailed it (including the inability to say "c@cksucker" to an ump and not get ran from the game). Great movie - I guess I do out Bull Durham out in front of For Love of the Game but it's close. Costner and baseball, who woulda thought it?

I'm not a big Costner fan, but I'll be the first to admit I'd be going to the theater if I heard he was making a new baseball movie.

(Bull Durham is #1. Major League comes close in quotability, but nothing compares to "Charlie, here comes the deuce... and when you speak of me, speak well." I can't begin to count the number of times I've used that line when catching a kid who thinks he's better than he is.)

I think you're missing an important genera that is sure to appeal to millennials.

"It's so Bad...."

The leader in this category - and it isn't remotely close imo - is King of Kong. One of the best docs of the past 10 years for sure:

I guess what we really need is @guinness to weigh in on this category...

Second that for sure. I'm sure there are some semi-obscure 80s movies that Tim can clue us into that were popular with the arcade crowd.

Auto Racing: Grand Prix. (NASCAR shit roundy-rounds don't count.)

Track & Field, and my favorite sports movie of all time: Chariots of Fire.

Me and my young, arcade and video game obsessed friends were heavy into this one:

Gleaming the Cube aka A Brother's Revenge.

This hit right around the time the arcade and NES game Skate or Die did, and we all couldn't stop watching or playing. Hugely influential. One of the first VHS tapes I built my stash on. Good times.
