Bitcoin crash coming (1 Viewer)

I don't follow the day to day value closely. What are the metrics you even look at when speculating in the short term?

I'm long term bullish on it and several alts so I'm happy hodling. In the meantime I pick a few points where I'm entering and exiting positions to take profits or pick up some extra BTC/alts.

One key test to come . . . how do cryptos do in the face of recessionary pressures, falling equity markets and significant unemployment. Are they play toys for idle capital that melt as soon as general conditions get hard?

A currency substitute shouldn't face major revaluation in the face of hard times. Gold / silver / ect. hold their values. So does my Dollar, Yen, GBP, Euro, etc. Knowing crypto currencies will hold their purchasing power is an essential component in becoming a plausible substitute for traditional currencies.

These days might be coming soon. Let's see how things work out -=- DrStrange

Food for thought. While this thread has been running Bitcoin ran from $15,000 to ~$19,000 down to <$4,000 and back up to $10,000+. In the same time the Great British Pound has ranged from $1.35 to $1.22 facing all sorts of pressure / optimism from the Brexit decisions. Volatility makes for a poor currency. The absolute value of a Bitcoin is not nearly as important as price stability.

Over the past few weeks I have done some research and increased my BTC holdings. I used to use BTC just as a method for moving money on and off of various sports books. I have switched over to becoming a real believer.

Now my philosophy is to buy and hold for the next 5-10 years.

Never try to catch a falling knife!

nah I fundamentally believe in bitcoin. I wont sell at a loss ever. Even if it goes to zero so be it but that wont happen I dont think. Bitcoin is the future it is just that most of society doesnt understand it yet. I would be honestly shocked if it isnt 3-4x current value in 10 years maybe more.

I understand the basic premise of crypto currency, but how many are there now?

And whats to stop someone from starting another?

and when that happens what makes the decentralized currency you're using more popular than the next one?

Real questions.

And when i say 'more popular' i mean, what becomes the default system? or does everyone just acknowledge when a new one shows up that ,'ok we have to accept that one too now' ?

it is, if nothing else, fascinating.

I think this is close, but I don't believe it's going to be Bitcoin. Electronic currency is the future, but there are far more popular options already growing (Samsung/Apple Pay, Venmo, purchasing with your app) that companies have heavily invested in. The adoption of crypto currency is slow, it has no 'value' other than a sketchy investment opportunity, and I don't believe that it will become mainstream unless multiple world governments begin to regulate it, and that kinda defeats the intended purpose of it in the first place.

AS OF MONDAY... PUBLIC RELEASE OF GOOGLE AS THE QUANTUM SUPREMACY .. AS SOON AS EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THAT IS... BITCOIN IS FINISHED.... ITS SLIDE HAS BEGUN.... MONDAY. SEPT 23

bitcoins code/key is unbreakable, a quantum computer could hack it in a nano second. not secure any longer
once google starts having a crypto$ buy it .
prob be named quantum-coin

thats just my spin on things...... my 2 cents for what its worth. (2 CENTS)

This is what I am talking about when I say people don't understand Bitcoin. People think it only has value as a "sketchy investment". Bitcoin has tremendous value as an invention. Think of Bitcoin more like a bank than a currency. SamsungPay/Apple Pay/Venmo are not competing with bitcoin as they are totally different things. Venmo etc. are just USD in a digital form, it is the same as sending a wire just more convenient. Bitcoin is its own currency but also its own system altogether.

I don't see the end goal of bitcoin to be that we can go buy coffee with bitcoin anywhere we want. That type of acceptance isn't the goal.

I used to think Bitcoin was the future also. I still believe in crypto, but I think a different crypto that isn't out yet will be the future. What would cause people to switch to bitcoin for literally everything? I think the governments would create a crypto well before they let that happen.
