Bought a Set - Deal Changed After Payment Sent (2 Viewers)

Not to defend the guy because I don't know him or the situation, but it could have very easily happened that the pictures were taken with the set as depicted, but that some of the chips got put away in the wrong place when he boxed them up after the photo session.

And item descrip...

Hi, I sold something similar once and after the sale I realized I had miscounted. I figured out the price per piece and refunded the buyer the amount per piece I had shorted him and he was happy. Maybe you could suggest this to him, assuming that would suffice.

If you don't ask you don't get my old Brother Madam used to say! Ask him if he doesn't find them within a week can you have $X back and then you'll see how reasonable he is as a seller.

This one shows em all (taken direct from auction site)...

That pic shows one full stack and 3 partial stacks. One of those 3 stacks COULD have 5 dice chips at the bottom. Not saying that's what happened, but it isn't impossible.

Man... I never even thought of that, or would think some one would do that. That's pretty f*cked up right there.

If you click on the eBay link and zoom in on the first pic where the chips are in the cage, it doesn't look like there are four complete barrels of $25 chips. that doesn't mean there aren't more on the other side though.

Same thing happened to me recently too. I was totally bummed, but basically blew it off. I would probably handle it differently in the future.

I would figure out the cost to buy 5 of these chips (plus shipping) and ask for a refund in that amount. Doesn't hurt to ask. If he says no then give him a bad eBay rating.

I thought the same thing until I realized that the listing is for 1100 chips and that bird cage only holds 1000.

Sorry this happened, Dude. I think you should get a refund, and it should be what you expect to pay to replace those missing chips. Was it the seller who suggested doing the transaction off of eBay? I don't suppose you used a credit card . . .

Also in the eBay listing and in your Post #30 pic, there is a side picture where the stack of 25s in the front looks like one in the middle is either very warped or broken in half....... :(

Good luck

Seller DID request doing it offline ... and YES I DID use a credit card! :) Definitely some protection there!

I just saw that one too... sucks. I did get him down to $1.35/chip... including shipping and PayPal fees... so I'm not out as much as it looks. I'm waiting to see the quality of chips before I decide how far I want to go (re: credit card protection refund, etc.).

You did the deal outside of eBay right? So you can't hold him to ransom over feedback or use their resolution services. Ofcourse he knows this.

Did you pay via PayPal or did you pay via bank transfer? If PayPal you can ofcourse open a dispute there and providing you put your case together carefully with details and pics you should get some resolution from them.

Also bear in mind he can read this thread quite easily

That sucks, I'd definitely open a dispute with Paypal if there's no compensation for the missing chips. I'd leave out that the sale was originally eBay though. If you paid him with friends and family transfer you may be out of luck unless you can do a chargeback on your credit card, and that opens another can of worms with Paypal potentially closing your account.

Stardust $25s seem so rare. Does anyone know how many are out there?

Hang on, who cares what the pictures show? The listing said 80 x $25 chips, you're supposed to get 80 x $25 chips.

I agree completely, I'm just saying it's possible the seller knew all along he didn't have 80 $25 chips and misrepresented himself rather than he misplaced them.

Not sure just how rare they are, but they're definitely in demand at the moment, and supply seems ridiculously upside down vs. the amount of $1's and $5's floating around. A rack of them would go for somewhere around $325-$450 right now depending on the buyer.

Ah, I see what you mean. Well, here's hoping that's not the case, and he sincerely did just misplace them in some way.

I love those chips...sorry you got dealt one spade short of a flush....I'd give him a chance...one chance...then go other routes for justice.

Damn..sorry to hear this too. Hopefully you find someone that needs a few hundreds and can trade for the $25s.

Damn, I should have hung onto mine :(

Squeaky wheel gets the chips, daily email and be as polite and annoying at the same time until he caves to refunding for the $25s or searches until finding them. Description trumps all pictures, too bad no buyer protection but 80% of people are reasonable. It's that other 20% that makes it suck to be trusting.

A fraudulent sale is fraudulent no matter whether it is through eBay, Paypal or any other route. Each state has a statute that protects buyers from a fraudulent sale. If things got really bad you could send him a demand letter under that statute. In MA it is known as a 93A action and you don't need a lawyer to send the letter (which may scare the crap out of the seller)

So, the chips from this deal arrived on Friday and this seller definitely proved to be a total retard/as*hat/moron. He packed the chips INSIDE the 1k birdcage in cheap/generic chip racks, threw everything in a box, and sent it out the door. As you might guess, the result was a complete disaster, with the bottom four racks being destroyed during shipping....

damage1.jpg damage2.jpg

There were a few flea bites from all of the jostling around on the bottom barrels (the top 6 racks were intact), but for the most part, all of the chips survived relatively unscathed with only one dead soldier ($5).

However, that was not the end of it - the seller also lied about the quantity of $5s, only sending me 497 instead of the promised 500. There was still a silver lining, though, as the chip gods smiled down on me... you see, I had 3 spare $5 chips from the 25/50 set I put together a couple months back (thanks @liftapint), so everything evened out! Needless to say, everything worked out with nice round numbers of all chips, so I'm not going to pursue any type of action against the seller. Although, I still wish I had eighty of the $25s.

fullset.jpg 25s.jpg 5s.jpg

Here's the total breakdown (with photos below):

$0.25 x 150
$1.00 x 500 (only 430 shown)
$5.00 x 600 (only 520 shown)
$25 x 75
$100 x 20

I'm stoked to have my first full Paulson set finalized (almost) for .25/.50 and $1/$2 games, and am psyched that a potentially bad sale worked out (for the most part). Thanks to @p5woody for the Stardust quarters label art!

I'll whip up some proper chip pr0n after I get the new 5's cleaned and oiled.

Moving forward, getting those five $25 chips will be my ongoing quest... and eventually I'd like to have 200 quarters total.

I've seen some bad shipping before. This one has to be in the top 3. The worst was chips tossed loose into a med flat rate box with 2 pieces of 8.5 x 11 paper for packing and seeing chips peeking out of the bottom that was ready to bust open.

Glad it wasn't worst. You going to glue the $5er back together or right to the chip cemetery with it?

I would if I could... I can't even find the broken off piece! I've been through the box a dozen times or so and still can't find it.

Weird.
