Ok, need some help from the expert .25/.50 players. My friend has come to me asking for the appropriate chip breakdown for a .25/.50.

.25 x100
$1 x200
$5 x200
$20 x100

Is this enough for a typical .25/.50 game? Let me know your thoughts.

That is enough bank for $3225 so more than enough. If your friend is breaking a $3K bank for a 25c/50c game, it's probably time to up the stakes.

One rack of fracs is plenty so I think that breakdown looks fine.

This is what we currently use.

We moved from 25c to 50c/50c because as the others have said, it plays exactly the same. I have another rack of $5s as well.

We never get into the $25s because we just use the extra $5s but they look pretty haha

What are the thoughts on $20s vs $25s? I have always done $25s but I understand that the allure of the $20s is because most players have $20 bills so it’s easier to do the bank. True?

I'm sure it depends on how the game plays, but it seems a little high on the 20s. Could swap 40 more quarters.

Depending on how deep the game is, it won’t matter. You may not get that many of those in. I like the $20’s personally, but I have $25s. It’s really player dependent.

For those suggesting 50¢ chips, I do agree a 50¢/50¢ game plays nearly identical to a 25¢/50¢ game.

...and you can give each player $5 in fracs (10x50¢).
Yup.

I'm pretty sure that's a nonsense thing that people repeat but has no truth.
What I can tell you from experience is that most of my players are annoyed by my $20 chips because they're used to $25s
Yup.

I have sets with both. Either one is fine but some players are less familiar with 20s. If folks are buying in for 40 or 60 is helps a lot. If folks are buying in for 100 it is not really different.

This is perfect. Almost what I use.

If you want b some $100's for fun, get 80 x $20, 20 x $100.

I still don't see how. Initial buyin they're getting it in $1s and $5s. Reloads they're getting in $5s until the $5s are gone. After that, is it that much harder to hand a guy 2 twenty-fives and 2 fives, than it is to hand him three twenties?

I went with $20s for this reason. Total myth. By the time you get to these, there's over $1200 in play. No one is adding on or rebuying $20 at a time by then. I get almost exclusively $50 or $100 rebuys at this point.

That said, $20 is fine. It's mainly to store value anyway. If I had it to do over I'd do $25 (and I might replace as it is).

Breakdown is dependent on who is hosting and how aggressive the table is.

Table that folds a LOT and respects other peoples raises. Limited drunkenness.

.25 X 100
$1 X 100
$5 X 400
$20 X 100

Bank of $4125

Table that has excessive alcohol. No respect for peoples raises. AND believe the game starts AFTER the flop..

.25 X100
$1 X 100
$5 X 800
$20 X 140
$100 X 60

Bank of $12,925

Cash...two rules of thumb:
1. 100 x 25¢ is plenty for a single table (give a barrel out to each of the first 5 players ala @abby99, and the others can make change as the game progresses), and
2. Always get spares (at least 5-10) of every denom in case of Murphy.

This guy keeps getting it right, and I hear he’s a hell of a fella:

Or ignore him and go with this guy’s advice...he’s smaht and good-looking to boot:

This is actually an excellent point!

It's what I like about having hundos. Late rebuys I can just flick one over for a $100 bill. I find I break these out after only 2-3 barrels of $20s are on the table.

Personally I would only recommend a $20 chip as a bank/high value store chip in a $20 max buy in game, like .05/.10. But like I said I have them and I use them, they do work just fine in .25/.50

Personally, I like a lot more fracs and 1's. Everyone starts off with the same breakdown of chips and delays due to making change are minimized throughout the night. Rebuys are usually with 5's, sometimes 25's (everyone I play with uses $25 instead of $20). Typical starting stacks for $100 buy in = (40) .25, (40) $1, and (10) $5. Most of my sets have enough for 8-10 players like that and I've got more 5's, 25's, and 100's if/when we want to play 1/2.

I would definitely add in a barrel of $100.

$20 and $25 really feel the same overall. It depends on the action at the game but later on people are usually buying in for more than the initial buyin so $25 work fine. I prefer $25 because I can use them in a 1/2 game as well on occasion and they are usually cheaper to buy than a $20 chip.

0.25 x 100
$1 x 200
$5 x 200 to x 300
$20 (or $25) x 80
$100 x 20
