This thread is great because all that’s commented is exactly what ran through my mind

1 - these uncultured plebs wouldn’t know casino chips if the chips hit them in their face
2 - “CPC is too sharp” is exactly what they said
3 - I’m going to have to find new poker bros
4 - am I really insane for considering $3+ a chip? No…
5 - “the dice chip and the clay chip pay out the same” they tell me…
6 - no one gets to question my decisions but me!

I use a different set each month, along with matching table toppers, buttons, cut-cards for the set. Rotation includes both Paulson and ceramic sets, but I have quite a few sets - several of which I've designed, and we only play once a month or so, so its a long time between repeats.

So a regular who's been coming for many months recently said "Hey is this a different poker chip set?"

He apparently never even noticed he had been playing with a different set each month for like a year, or that the table toppers, buttons and cut cards had changed each month. The others at the table quickly corrected him (many of whom do like the variety), but some players apparently have zero awareness.

Even if they fall in love with clay chips, they’ll still think you’re crazy if you tell them how much you spent on them.

Just remind them how many buy ins they went through on their worst night...

Funny, yes, often true, yes… But kinda weird when the upgrade is to a game you love playing.

If the coach of a softball league team where everyone was sharing a couple of old crappy dinged-up aluminum bats with peeling tape suddenly got everyone their own MLB-grade wooden bat, I think players would notice.

The only people I’ve ever met that liked crappy chips and paper cards were home game players that never set foot in a casino and play for $10-20. I once brought plastic cards to a game like this and everyone complained they were slippery. They now used them though

I can attest to this, Olive Garden left Canada decades ago......I recently went to one and well.....how the heck do they afford those nice stonebrick buildings? there food is terrible.

My solution to paper card lovers (I admit I prefer the feel of nice paper cards to new plastic cards as well) are Modiano cards which a perceptively thicker and in my experience are closest to the feel of "Bee" Paper Cards....which I admit are my favorite, for approximately 1-5 hands before they are ruined.

No, they haven't for a while. In 2010 or so they went out of business. @Potsie1 owns the IP I'm pretty sure. Bought them as part of the Patton estate sale iirc. Not sure if he has the molds or not but in 2017 someone from holdempokerchips.com told me no one had machines that would do short runs of the molds. If someone could start printing 5$ samurai palace they'd be able to print gold .

I tell them I can and do resell chips and only lose a little bit. Sometimes I make a profit so it's like a free rental when I give up playing poker.
