Now that the holiday shopping is nearly over, I'm thinking of buying a real slot machine for my home.
My state allows machines that are 25 years old or older, so I don't need to be shopping for a $5,000 Mills antique. I'm thinking more along the lines of a 3-reel IGT machine from early 1990s, like an IGT S2000.
For some reason, I'm not a big fan of newer, multi-line video slots with results that are tough to interpret. (You can win with a zig-zag pattern.) My ideal slot machine would be a real, retired casino model, 25-cent with a single pay line. I'd love to get one that actually dumps quarters when you win, but I know that may be a tough and expensive find.
The S2000s are plentiful right and are available in lots of places for $500 to $700. They clearly work when you buy them, but I have a few questions. A couple of companies offer a one-year warranty on their machines. Others sell as is. Most are located in the Midwest, so driving to a showroom would turn into a major road trip.
That's why I'm turning to you, our PFC members familiar with slots.
First, do you own one of these machines, or have you ever owned one?
Do these machines keep working for a reasonable time, or do they need lots of frequent maintenance to keep going?
Would you say a machine like this is worth the price, delivery, and hassles of ownership?
Knowing what you know, what would you suggest to someone interested in getting a machine for home use?
Thanks in advance!
Dennis
