Now that the holiday shopping is nearly over, I'm thinking of buying a real slot machine for my home.

My state allows machines that are 25 years old or older, so I don't need to be shopping for a $5,000 Mills antique. I'm thinking more along the lines of a 3-reel IGT machine from early 1990s, like an IGT S2000.

For some reason, I'm not a big fan of newer, multi-line video slots with results that are tough to interpret. (You can win with a zig-zag pattern.) My ideal slot machine would be a real, retired casino model, 25-cent with a single pay line. I'd love to get one that actually dumps quarters when you win, but I know that may be a tough and expensive find.

The S2000s are plentiful right and are available in lots of places for $500 to $700. They clearly work when you buy them, but I have a few questions. A couple of companies offer a one-year warranty on their machines. Others sell as is. Most are located in the Midwest, so driving to a showroom would turn into a major road trip.

That's why I'm turning to you, our PFC members familiar with slots.

First, do you own one of these machines, or have you ever owned one?

Do these machines keep working for a reasonable time, or do they need lots of frequent maintenance to keep going?

Would you say a machine like this is worth the price, delivery, and hassles of ownership?

Knowing what you know, what would you suggest to someone interested in getting a machine for home use?

Thanks in advance!

Dennis

Hey Dennis,
I’m not an expert on slots but I did recently buy an early 60s Baldecchi slot that was in the Nevada Club Reno back in the day.
Paid $550 for it. It’s a 25 cent mechanical machine, 3 reals, one line. Very cool and vintage.
There is a Fitzgerald’s machine on eBay right now. They’re asking $950 or make offer. It’s almost exactly like the one I picked up.
Very fun and cool for your poker room.

Not an expert, but if I was getting a slot machine, this is exactly they type I'd want to get! I'll be watching this thread to see what you find!

I have an IGT slant top (sit down) slot machine that takes and pays quarters and then an IGT s2000 double diamond that takes and lays nickels. Both are single line and I love them. I have had the slant top for about 17 years and the s2000 for about 5. Never an issue with the s2000 and only minor stuff that I could fix on the slant top (and I’m not good at fixing things lol). Not sure if I have just been lucky but I havent had much in the way of issues.

The main issue I have had is with the dollar bill validator. It has been a pain and is expensive to update when new style bills come out. I ended up having to disconnect mine and not use it any more.

I have a few machines now but none are IGT or have coin hoppers. I can put you in touch with a guy in OH who has a warehouse full of these. They will shop it out for you. Which is basically a light cleaning, replace all the batteries, clear the machine history, and a complete test and inspection to make sure all functions are working. They will crate it and ship it right to your door. Comes with a warranty and tech support if needed.

I have a Bally Elite V32 with I-Reels. These are hybrid machines with video and reels. Its an older cabinet that Bally upgraded.

Depending on the game installed, it can have 1 pay line or more. Also have to change out the reel strips to match the game. Or be lazy like me and just get more reels, so you are only swapping reels (which are plug and play) with the strips already installed on them. :)

You can add a device inside the machine (even on those older IGTs) where you can add credits with an app on your phone and can also print out tickets. I printed out $100 tickets and use those on all my machines.

Give me a call if you want to drop by and check out some of my machines.

Tommy -- Those are awesome. And I love that the company programmed the pay vouchers with your Broken Bell casino name.

Pencil me in for a visit when you're available after Christmas! (Will PM)

You can set the info on the tickets, mute the machines, lock them, individually or all at once with the app. Its a $90 module that you install yourself.
After Christmas sounds good. (y)

Many video machines available too. :whistling:
