Cartman wasn't invited to Kyle's birthday party and really wanted to go. He didn't whine and complain. He found a way to make it happen. Be like Cartman!

Yeah, Casa Bonita !! I have not been in there in years. Do they still have the divers?
.....thanks for posting something refreshing

For what it’s worth, the constant trolling from several members over the past month is a primary factor why I (and I’m sure others) may be less inclined to post public for trade/sale ads and would prefer dealing directly with people who haven’t acted out negatively towards people who participated in the private buy.

Edit: typo

Seriously... So much this.

I don't want any bad blood with anybody and I don't want to restrict or inhibit trade. I'm just expressing an opinion that I think is fair and relevant to our community. I guess I could find less offensive ways to express that opinion. But I'd also guess that people who are offended could let it roll off their backs. We're all adults and we won't agree about everything.

I for one found it offensive and regardless, it is in the TOS. If it wasn't I would have let it "roll off my back"

No comment on which orifice I received my responses into, but said arrangements were consensual and both parties came to a satisfactory conclusion.

I wasn't sure where to put this little rant, so I'm putting it here. Yes, it's about the boat chips, but bear with me. I'm not trying to rehash arguments that have been beaten to death.

I have no problem with there being secret and limited group buys to get these chips produced. I applaud the effort I have no problem with the original purchasers selling them at a nice profit. But here's my problem. These chips are being actively traded, and have been for a while. But they are still being retained for the most part within a select group. Now that the secret is out, why can't the full membership participate in the secondary market? Can the GB members please remove the covenant to only resell to other GB members?

Failure to give the full membership access to the secondary market will only serve to make the division within the community permanent. That's my two cents.

I know others have responded to your post. Hopefully most of your questions were answered.. but to give a tad more context of why folks are hesitant to sell publically.... a while back, a member approached me, and commented about this very issue. He’s a serious collector, rarely sells, but has on occasion sold off chips. He mostly buys chips. He explained that he had a few racks he didn’t really need, and observed that some of the frustration he noticed being expressed from non participants was similar to your op. He was considering selling his extras making them available to the community. He asked about a fair price to offer...

...meanwhile, there was a thread over on the donkey den, which was was discussing prices observed for the Star chips. The first couple posts seemed to observe outrageous pricing of $7/chip, and it was discussed (and commonly agreed upon) that folks would be totally cool with these chips selling in the $3-4/ chip range.

Back to my seller... he listed his chips for just over his actual costs, and they wound up selling between $2-3/chip. He didn’t need to sell them, but did, and well below the “acceptable price”. Well, fast forward back to that donkey thread on pricing... this member was excoriated and demeaned for selling his chips... the reason? Well, his post count was only in the 50 Range... so folks has to judge the validity of him as a chipper... They blasted him, and even speculated on the status of his marriage as a reason he was selling...Huh?

We all participate in different ways.. some have 2000 posts in 6 months, and only one set of CC chips. Others, like this member, are very active in collecting over several years, but are very private in what they post online. This member has an insane custom Chan table, has participated in several CHIP Room sales, has tons of sweet Paulson chips, but he was belittled as some random neighbor of mine (he happens to live within a mile of me...).

I had the conversations with this member, I know what his intentions were. He didn’t need to sell, and he didn’t need to start the auctions out around his cost. He was trying to be responsive to the complaints he was hearing, and tried to free up some chips... they sold for VERY reasonable amounts, and he still got flamed on the donkey den... by the same people who said “if only someone would sell these for $3-4/chip”... who the eff wants to participate under these circumstances...

Some people just want to be unhappy...

This makes me sad. Human nature is why it’s so difficult to have nice things as a collective.

I dunno, I took it as a jab on his part -- lots of ways to reference it without any ambiguity on the intent of the poster, but that one wasn't.. Maybe that wasn't the intent... but a mod should select his/her words more carefully than most.

I might be in the minority, but I thought Donkey Den was kind of clever and not even remotely offensive to me. There were a lot of negative posts/threads over there so his reference isn't really defamatory as much as it is explanatory (IMO)

I mean had he said over by the jackasses or something, sure, probably not cool. I do not believe that is the case and think we could all have a little thicker skin.

Would it be unbecoming to refer to this place the Poker Chip den? Or the PC den?

Yes, over in the Den they refer to this place as the "Orange Wall", therefore "Poker Chip den" or "the PC den" would be inappropriates.

Otherwise, a place where I offered information, then got relentlessly bashed, and was finally told to "get the fuck out" just because I own a small set of nice chips - yeah, that place is a "den".

Definition of den
1: the lair of a wild usually predatory animal

@Poker Zombie

does it make me a nerd if I LOL'd at your signature line. Good stuff man!

@BGinGA thank you sir, I am stealing your tag line. Be civil, or fuck off. That is some profound shit my friend, thanks for sharing!!!

Intent or not, it is the name. If I made a website called the Chip Douches, and some one called it the 'Douche Den,' would I really be able to take offense at that?

I had a text conversation with Dan/Mega early on after CD launched discussing this very point. I praised him on the efforts, but expressed my concerns with the name, and told him that I thought the use of "donkey" was inappropriate. If you want to establish a new site as a viable alternative, using a word that doubles as a pejorative might not be the best approach. But hey - in the end, they chose the name.

Probably after the NCAA tournament. Someone told me it was bad idea to take 100 small payments via paypal around mid-march. :whistling:

I'd love a raffle. Pretty much the only chance I'll get to have a nice set like this unless I hit the powerball!
