I am a board member of the Museum Association of New York and we just held our annual conference in Saratoga Springs, NY. Our opening reception was at the Canfield Casino which was one of several active casino and clubs in the town from the late 19th century through the 1950s. Some were legal and some were illegal, many if not all had NYC organized crime ownership but Saratoga Springs seems to have been neutral territory and did not see the violence NYC did. The casino is now an event space and houses a museum on the town and the casino. I have organized the photos below into a couple of subjects of interest to this forums members for fun.

Here is the main ball room and would have been the main gambling hall and ballroom. JP Morgan and the other era's robber baron's gambled here and upstairs in an illegal gambling room. A more elegant casino from a more privileged time.

The Saratoga Clubhouse:
This was the highest stakes gambling room not just in New York State but in the world at the time. Chips were valued at $100, $500, $10,000 and $100,000.

I grew up 20 miles from Saratoga Springs, the history of that area is amazing. Such a beautiful building, can't believe Ive never been inside.
It really is and so much great culture available. I hope to get back up soon with the family.
