Cheater Or just home table advantage? (1 Viewer)

Hmm. I wonder how the game is configured. Starting stack size and blinds structure can make a huge difference in how skill can be applied. I slowed down early blinds in my game 18 months ago. On PCF advice too. Now skilled players are killing it.

If I were crushing this game at 95% win rate I would beg others to deal. I would never touch the deck, and lock all chips in a case during the game to make sure I was not doing anything improper. I actually have my worst performance metics at my own game. There’s something that smells here.

Update- there was talk at the table during a game recently (not by me) about how is it possible that he can win so many games at his house, and none at mine. Maybe three months ago. I have since won a couple of games there and a few others including his wife. He hasn’t won any  :ROFLMAO: BTW- he and wifey always sit across from each other.

Did you say the game does not use cut cards?

also the old saying goes... "trust everyone - Still cut the cards"

a good cut and cut card makes cheating much harder. (not impossible tho) you can force a cut.

Most important, have a look on youtube on how to cheat. there's plenty of ways. false rifflle shuffle, forcing a cut, bottom dealing, second card dealing palming cards, palming chips etc etc.

Education is half the battle.

But a good mechanic will always fool you

if your not using a cut card and having someone else than the dealer cut then its easy to cheat the game.

good luck.

Text message from someone that played with us on Sunday when I won after going heads up for 40 minutes to close it out.

You might also suggest that seats be randomized, to lessen the instances of the host and his wife always sitting across from each other (good for signaling over or under the table).
This feels like the next best step besides just watching for suspicious behavior. Couples will always be making googly eyes at each other at games but signaling may be much easier to notice/harder to do if their sitting in the on the same rail rather than across from each other. Might also balance your game more if you have weaker players and players who might choose to sit on position to attack their blinds.
In his home game are their noticeable weaker players who him or his wife seem to position around?

The part that I find most suspicious, is that they do better in their own home.

In previous discussions on PCF and through personal experience, most hosts fare better when they are relieved of hosting duties and can concentrate on the game.
Definitely agree with this, hosting takes away from being focused on the game, especially early, late stages in a tournament, not so much as everything has pretty much been done.

Do the two games differ appreciably in structure? Stack size, blind steepness, number of players, difference in dominant player style? Can understand the suspicion and is good to question. Just wondering if differences in the games could explain some of the outcome.

I've found a pretty funny non-significant correlation: I play my best tournament poker when I'm dealing but not hosting, then just playing, then hosting and dealing. I believe its because dealing but not hosting forces me not to get bored and stay aware of all patterns; just playing I may get bored or on my phone but not fully distracted; hosting and dealing is chaos and I can't keep my head straight.

This is why I encourage newbies knocked out of a tournament to stick around and deal for the table. Following the action is extremely interesting, and you can learn so much more when you are actively engaged.

lol and they can first hand see the pain of the dealer when people like them don’t pay attention to the action
