Chip Failure? (2 Viewers)

I've had quite a few over the years. Here are a couple.

I went with only one NCV for my first custom set. I should have gone all NCV.

Well you know me: the king of non-denoms and totally misunderstood for so many years.
but now upcoming soon: oddball-denoms ( my other quirk). I used to love that too. No 'MEH' ever could sway me.
.
Honestly, those chips are so awesome classic! thx for the pics :cool

Washed some chips that had paper labels unbeknownst to me.

WTF?? I have done some seriously bad shit to chips (i see another thread coming) and never saw the paper inlays peel off the top.
Especially with blue chips (ASM another story) You didnt put these in a dish washer or dryer did you?
t-mold oversized only?

IMO bright white is not needed there at all (love your babies as is).
BTW ASM BW came out just after I made the same set mentioned above. I may have changed it but am now glad I was not tempted.
I made the following tourney set with BW and made 2 versions (of the $100) and was not happy with either (to go in my regrets thread soon) .
Not to bash BW, but not needed here or there is fine.

I think it bugs me on this one because the retro red and peacock blue are unweighted, then the brass doesn’t show much in the grey, so the brass stands out on the white

LOL you are so very right!
but to quote myself up earlier:
"Sometimes, you stare too much at your chips (when nobody else does) "
regardless, In this case I think BW would be too bright.
IMO your colors blend well and if you remade these you may find that the BW lets in too much color bleed on the edges
(a very tricky issue with ASM's; in many cases the brass stops the color bleed between spots (bright colors w/o brass bleed terribly))

I just did a gentle rinse on them.
Those were the v1 labels. It was pretty quickly discovered they were a problem if I recall. The next gen labels were OK from what I heard.

very shocked
i only remember people over-oiling and getting oil-halo creeping into the BCC/ASM inlays, but no real damage.

Contrast issue (looked fine in the designer 10+ years ago).

Had the $5 chips remade with just the white and a 312 edge spot. These are now "secondaries".

hot stamp too big :banghead:
I made this RAmerican stamp for the A-mold (all the racks of blanks are still here unstamped because I was so done after the wait (long story))

.
The 44mm RAs were made to go with these; but the whole set just never happened due to the stamp failure.
I could not even mix the V2 44's with my V1's due to differences in the thickness.

Are a-mold blanks hard to come buy these days?
I only have a couple racks of these.
I tried to sell them off on CT years ago and there were no takers.
I know also BCC was loath to sell blanks but finally gave in (oh you need to see -- got 1000's in several molds).
+I have a ton of ASM no spot solid blanks too (from a selloff).

I was half joking...but I am certain that there is a market here for them, especially with @AK Chip dialing in a hot stamper.

Are you selling tickets for people to walk through this chipping museum? I’m in, and can’t wait to see what I can get in the gift shop!

yeah, i need to make a 'let go' thread.
I had to tear my place up just to find that RA-stamp failure.
Not to mention the stamp. After my hot stamp guy fell off the map I bought a cheasy old hotstamp on eBay but never worked up the balls to practice in fear of ruining chips.
Have to clean up now...

Well I for one have enjoyed the various threads you’ve started, and as someone who’s only been here for a year I’ve learned quite a bit.

Now as someone that would be in line at that let go thread, I’d also advise caution. I would imagine your notifications and PMs would both stretch for miles and be a bit of an undertaking, so might want to clear a day for that!

Could you PM me details of the secret Illuminati. How often do you guys meet to play poker?

what color is that yellow $5?
I am sure it was just standard 'yellow' w brass.
I only remember there being 2 choices. Yellow and day-glow(no brass) yellow.

edit: sorry: I thought you asked about my last post

ha! lots of thought went into my spot and (unspectacular) color choices (I never have imagined these would draw any interest).

@Klobberer still looking for BCC blanks?

If these were even with the edge of the inlays I think they would be kinda neat.
i think my plan was to see the 2nd spot inserted with the same base color and be a 'ghost spot' for effect.
i wrongly assumed both would be cut.
but i suspect only one 1/4 was cut all around and I wound up with that
