Hey friends! I have stumbled across what I think is a fantastic deal on some chips ($40 for the 500 ct set), but I have no way of knowing if they are "real" or not except a couple pictures. Owner claims them as unused, and "clay professional chips"

I can only find the same chips as part of a 3-chip sample on eBay, and no manufacturer details. The eBay listing calls them "claytec". Are these in the same category as the 2-400 sets I see that are sold by Nevada jack in similar wooden boxes?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

I don't know anything about these chips personally, but they LOOK like typical plastic chips that sell from 7 to 15 cents apiece and are marketed as "clay composite casino quality" but in reality are just cheap plastic chips.

Edited to add that if they are RT Plastics as some people suggest, they're a good deal for that price.

I would agree, RT Plastics (or a knock off of RT Plastics).

And FTR, any chips that come wrapped in a plastic sleeve like Girl Scout cookies are not "casino quality"... The sticker and the end of the barrel tells me these are Chinese manufcatured.

EDIT: That said, that chip box used to go for $40 new. I don't see that exact one sold much any more, but chip box might make it worth the asking price.

I guess my gut told me they weren't going to be worth hundreds of dollars, but yes this does pose the question of is $40 worth it if they are RT plastics? And how would I tell?

I have a basic 11.5 gram dice set, but was hoping for something just a little nicer feeling/looking.

Not RT Plastics. China-made, and no way to tell how good the quality may be until they are in-hand.

Listed at 8c per chip, they may be worth half-that, exactly that much, or twice as much (but probably not any more than that).

Look at it as a $40 coin flip. Feeling lucky?

I think you'll find RT plastics a little nicer than dice chips. Breakdown appears to be

300 x $1
300 x $5
200 x $10
200 x $25

Not the best breakdown, but usable.

I'll give you the same advice I would give any one. If you are looking for a keeper set of chips (Paulson, CPC customs, TRKs, etc.) save up for those and don't get bogged down in getting another inferior (tho slightly better set). But at the asking price, with the box, its not a terrible deal.

I tend to agree with @BGinGA... after looking more, these are probably RT plastic knockoffs (color and edge spots aren't consistent with RT Plastics that I have seen), and no way to tell quality unless you have them in hand. They are cheap China chips, tho, I'm sure of that.

What's $40? Take the leap. They have to be better than dice chips. The breakdown, I'm sure, is not ideal though.

FWIW a 500pc set of these sold last year for $250 on eBay.:confused:

I think the edges are too sharp to be RT plastic, and the spot pattern isn't anything I've seen from RTP.

I concur with the assessment that they are Chinese made chips of some sort. Not that there's anything particularly wrong with that. For $40, I'd call this an easy buy. If you don't like them, it's a $40 Secret Santa gift.

Thank you all so much for the responses, I'm continually reminded how great a resource forums are, instant access to "the experts".

I guess I'll pick them up, seems worth the asking price anyways, and I'll post back some more pictures/info if I find any. Someone else may stumble upon it someday.

I picked up the chips, and as the community agreed, they are China plastic chips, a bit nicer than dice chips, but mostly just in aesthetics. They are 13.5 gram chips and pretty hefty.

The case is decent, and again more aesthetic than the aluminum briefcases if it sits somewhere in sight.

The breakdown is:

150 - $1 Grey
150 - $5 Red
100 - $10 Blue
50 - $25 Green
50 - $100 Black

Any tips on a good 8-10 person tourney breakdown? No rebuys. Seems a little weird breakdown as suggested, but if it'll suffice for 8-10 people with no rebuys I'll keep it.

Or is it more of a cash game setup? Anyways... sorry for the extra questions, thanks!

Better as a cash setup, but would work for tournaments if needed. I'd just relabel the blues as quarters. Or sell 'em for $41+. :)

Could you give an example of a workable breakdown for a starting stack? Again assuming 8-10 players. Is rebuy feasible? Sorry I am searching around the forums but it seems some straightforward answers as it pertains to this set would help me in the short-run.

Either of these would work:

10 x T200 stacks (100bb)

15 x 1
12 x 5
5 x 25
----------
35 chips = T200

~or~

10 x T300 stacks (150bb)

15 x 1
14 x 5
9 x 10
5 x 25
----------
43 chips = T300

You have ample T100 chips to increase the starting stack sizes if desired (up to T600) by adding up to 3x per stack, with plenty left over for color-ups of the T1/T5 (and T10) chips in both cases. You can use the T100s for re-buys, too.

This blind structure will run anywhere from 3:15 to 5:15 hours (plus breaks) with T200 to T600 starting stacks (100bb to 300bb) and 15- or 20-minute blind levels:

lvl sb bb
L1 1 2
L2 1 3
L3 2 4
L4 3 6
L5 4 8
remove T1 chips
L6 5 10
L7 5 15
L8 10 20
L9 15 30
L10 20 40
remove T5/T10 chips
L11 25 50
L12 25 75
L13 50 100 ***
L14 75 150
L15 100 200
L16 150 300 ***
L17 200 400
L18 300 600
L19 400 800
L20 500 1000

Unlikely to last past L13 with T200 stacks, or past L16 with T600 stacks. 40% average blinds increases, ranging from 25% to 50%.

Personally, I'd run it with the first set of stacks above (no T10 chips) plus 2x T100 added for T400 starting stacks (200bb) and offer re-buys for the first five levels. Combined with 15-minute blind levels, it would max out at around 4 hours including breaks.
