PNY's and Vineyards are terrible chips owing to their slipperiness, which is not dissimilar to dice chips - I sold two big sets of each for this reason alone. Add any other set with an oversize inlay to this list.
75% of the custom chipsets posted on here are awful - I fully expect others to feel the same about any custom set I own or would make.
The uglier a custom set is, is in direct proportion to how many times the owner will post photos of it at every opportunity.
Almost without exception, I hate any ceramic chipset that isn't a tournament set.
I will never oil a chipset again. It will look great after a handful of games anyway and the oil is just a magnet for gunk.
Paulson's have become overpriced but paying over $2.50 for any
CPC chip is the height of madness. They aren't even close in look, feel or quality to Paulson's - even old worn ugly ones (I have two
CPC sets
).
A great
BCC set feels, looks and handles better than a great Paulson set.
Dice chips aren't anywhere near as bad to play with as people make out.
NAGB chips are the most uninspired overpriced chips ever.
An actual Vegas Casino Paulson set with real history (Dunes, Trops, The Mint, Binions etc.) craps on anything else Paulson and it's not close. In a decade or so, some CA casinos may rival this.
The greatest Paulson fantasy set of all time are the Le Coves - this includes anything made by people on this site or those whose names shall not be uttered.
As a rule, Atlantic City Casino chips are as fugly as Atlantic City. Borgata may be the exception.
Outside of Mapes, Deadwoods and very few others, most
TRK's have fugly inlays and spots and
TRK's with hot stamps are awful.
TRK's may still be GOAT chips.
This site is far poorer post-
NAGB and its fallout, especially from a content perspective. In their time here, one banned member probably started 20% of the threads which would go into a PCF Thread HOF.
Everyone has an idea of the holy grail set. The true holy grail sets are
real custom Paulson's. Relabelled Paulsons are not custom paulsons.
With enough money, anyone can buy a large set of live casino chips, play with them and return them at any time with almost no effort. The fawning over those that have done this makes no sense at all.
